Prototypes and variants are best for the premium line, not copy-paste import vehicles.
Prototypes, sure, but to a limited extent, IMHO. Unless they’re substantially unique in some way, variants should be TT vehicles or even modifications to turn existing vehicles into said variants.
The point of premiums is to grind, so unique prototypes like the Caliope fit perfect there. Putting copy paste premiums just makes the grind bland.
Does it really?
If grind is the point of a premium, why not have a familiar vehicle as a premium, while the unique vehicles are in the techtree, being the content that a player grinds and with that the incentive to buy premiums.
Captured vehicles are different from the “premium with new camo”, in that they don’t only provide history as far as the vehicle itself goes, but also just generally vehicle options from other nations that are still unique for the tree. This can give new options and flexibility for lineups, while still not being paywalled since it’s in another tree.
Everyone wins, players interested in history, players that want interesting lineup options, players that just want to grind and players that don’t have the money to spend, but don’t want to miss out on a unique vehicle.
Meanwhile nobody is forced to play these vehicles they might have already played, since they are premium, and with that completely optional.
Captured vehicles in particular just seem absolutely perfect for a premium spot.
Or, better yet, have premiums be cool and unique vehicles that you can’t just get for free.
Yeah, exactly; for example, the F6F here would play pretty differently from other vehicles in the Japanese TT, so there’s a bit of a unique flavor when it comes to Japanese lineups. Plus, it could mean that some of the more unique Japanese things can come to the TT instead of being paywalled.
This is also an excellent point; there are honestly a lot of players who specifically buy Premiums like the named Ace planes or stuff like Cobra King for their history, or maybe they have some personnel connection to said vehicles. Having things like that in the TTs is a win-win for everyone; they add the history, lineup options, and neat vehicles in general.
The roundels are different though. And most of them have different weapons as well.
Unfortunately gaijin has stopped doing Ace premiums for axis nations I think, so they’re locked out of unique modifications like Galland’s custom 109s with different armaments (not found in any production aircraft) similar to Eremin’s Yak-3 or Pokryshkin’s P-39; or ones with cool paintjobs belonging to a specific pilot.
