Unlike others TT like China or Russia which their vehicle is deliberately made underpower or overpower, Japan TT facing a unique kind of bias which getting vehicle at the wrong time. For example: Tan-SAM kai and F-2.
In Tan-SAM kai cases, I understand Gaijin need quite some time to develop new mechanics but what I don’t understand is why they will think a 80s developed SAM system (upgraded during 2005) in on-par with a bunch of SAM system that developed recently (like SLM and those incoming SAM system). It isn’t like Japan doesn’t have suitable vehicle that on-par with others TT, they can just add the Type 03 Chu-SAM in game during the last update but somehow they decided not to. Personally speaking I don’t really think the upcoming Buk-M3 and Aster 30 is the product of brainstorm within this 3 months, those dev must be planned this long time ago but somehow they still think “Oh, short range SAM is ok be added alongside with medium range SAM”
Same with the F-2, still remember after Fox-3 added the devs said the F-2 is too OP to the game, but it is not the case when they finally added to the game, especially after seen teh Rafale and Typhoon was added before it. It can’t even be called as the T0 jet in it own BR range, it just a F-16 with slightly better radar (not really after they “fixed” the radar bug) and what it cost is the HDM (which I personally think is more important) and the missile also is not really crazy powerful like R-27ER vs AIM-7F/M/P or AIM-120 vs R-77. Gaijin can just adding it with those F-15 when the 120 is introduced.
Until now I don’t really know why they doing this, maybe they just try to milk every single drops of content until last day of this game but I feel like this is quite often happened on Japan TT only (maybe others TT like Italian or France also having this issue? IDK because I haven’t reach the top tier on those TT)

America got the hornet very late as well and in general nato missing cas armament equivlant to kh38 (exept france with hammers)

I feel like this issue isn’t only in Japan but yeah it does occur several times.
It’s too easy and useless to pull the whataboutism and compare it to other lacking trees. They need additions just like Japan so why is it wrong to point it out.
At the end of the day this is what I believe.
Gaijin, even though having said that they’d want fairness in equal capabilities between trees, sometimes can’t do so due to reality’s unfair limitations. They can try give counterparts as close as they can but some countries don’t have such equipment. (Sub-trees help but thats a different topic.)
Also Flavor of the month, or flavor of the update can be used as incentives to grind other trees. Grinding other trees are faster with premium time and/or vehicles.
The delay of F-2 is crazy, though. 4 Fox3 no HMD is too OP compared to Rafale and Typhoon? I don’t think so. Before it came, the Thai, OCU was the closest to it’s performance and it wasn’t a good plane.
The F-2 has more thrust and maneuverability.
Japan is quite good tech tree and now with Thailand as official sub-tech tree could extent its capabilities much more further. Mentioning Tam-SAM Kai as a 80s anti-air system is nonsense, while Pantsir-S1 had its development started in the 90s and Buk MLS in the 70s, date of development has nothing to do with being capable or not in-game.
And regarding F-2A and F-2A ADTW I see that’s not a overpowered vehicle in fact a well placed vehicle and balanced at the same time, comparing AAM-3 and AAM-4 with R-27, AIM-7 is nonsense since those missiles rely on the vehicle they’re installed and AIM-120 is completely different from R-77 and in fact I see AAM-4 to be even better than AIM-120 in some cases but to be honest, Japanese air is lacking in some aspects, and in ground, specially at top tier, there’s a lot to be fixed specially regarding mobility in the Type 10 main battle tank.
I main Japan and even this is a bit farfetched. Japan definitely gets mistreated, but not enough that it is the worse treated Nation in the game.
They could’ve added the F-2 a bit earlier and been fine, but its not dead- as you said.
Its airframe is WAY better than the F-16, with better missiles, more hardpoints and a better radar. The only thing the F-16 does better is speed, CAS and HMD- and not having HMD isn’t a massive downside when its ACM can go off the screen.
You could make this argument for any nation, really. It took forever for Germany to get their PzH2000, or for the US to get the F/A-18 or F-106, etc.
All of these could’ve come to the game earlier, and are just as iconic. The F/A-18 was so iconic for the Navy and only came after the Rafale, Eurofighter, Su-30SM and F-15E.
Althought they get upgraded but they also the same platform which designed during 80s, the upgraded isn’t like the Buk-3M that signification and can consider as a new vehicle.
those fox-3 is more relied on what vehicle they’re equiped on, I think is more relied than those fox-1

China has some under-BR’d vehicles, and has never been under-powered.

F-2A is the best 13.7 in the game.
Gaijin NEVER said F-2A was OP after Fox-3s were added. Never. It was said a year or over a year prior to AMRAAMs being added.
AAM-4 is better than R-77 and AIM-120B, if not better than AIM-120C as well.
If you Japan main you can really understand those is not comparable to the cases I mentions, just like Italy getting Aster 30 those vehicle to Japan a essential but not to Ger or US. Germany players won’t having a huge issue just because they didn’t got the PzH2000, they can just play the M109. Same with the US, they can just play F-15E or F-16C if they want to CAS
To be clear, Type 81C became in production at 1996 year. It is same age as Flarakrad and upgraded 2S6M Tunguska and what is more important it is same class of vehicle because comparing with SLM and Buk is not really correct.
While I am agree about F-2, but not with Tan-SAM Kai. It is not really late. Issue of last update is bias SLM what appeared too early and should be vehicle of current dev server as I think. While Tan-SAM Kai potentially is good analogue to SLS or Spyder from same update but it is totally broken and destroyed by bugs and missing its core mechanics. While Buk is getting together working radar on launcher vehicle Tan-SAM Kai is missing its IR LOAL feature (which was main feature and idea of whole Tan-SAM project and only thx to this IR guidance was chosen over SACLOS), missing IR datalink, bad TV seeker and etc.

The F-2 is an essential? The F-15J(M) is one of the best vehicles in the game, and we got the Thai Subtree with gave us the JAS39C (also one of the best 13.7) and the F-16A OCU. I mean, since its come I’ve only really seen other Japanese players using the F-15J(M) or the Thai aircraft. After the buzz around the F-2 left, I haven’t seen it as much.
