Jais is a family of vehicles manufactured by NIMR Automotive in the UAE.
History
Spoiler
In 2009 BAE Systems introduced their new RG35. It was a 6x6 MRAP with a side mounted powerpack; V-shaped hull; exceptional balance between firepower, survivability, protection and mobility. The RG35 family had a 4x4 variant, which was developed with maximum commonality with the 6x6 vehicle.
The UAE saw a huge potential in this vehicle. In November 2015, NIMR Automotive bought the rights of RG35 and then started a modernisation of the vehicle for UAE needs. The main differences between RG35 and Jais is replacement of the spare tire with an additional door and different engine configurations. The RG35 4x4 and 6x6 share the same 450hp engine, while Jais 4x4 has 450hp and 6x6 has 600hp.
The first batch of Jais 4x4 was manufactured in South Africa. The vehicle was adopted into the UAE service and took part in the military conflict in Yemen, where it showed its capabilities of protection and crew survivability. One vehicle came under enemy fire, but kept the entire crew safe and unharmed. Later this Jais 4x4 was exhibited at IDEX 2017 under the slogan “NIMR Saves Lives” as promotion for its efficiency.
At the same time on the IDEX 2017 was shown a new version of the Jais. The 6x6 IFV variant, which was armed with Turra 30, an unmanned turret developed by EVPU in Slovakia.
The combat proven Jais began to receive attention on the world market. The first strategic teaming agreement was signed at the IDEX 2021 with Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) about JAIS 4×4 MRAP for Saudi Arabia.
The second agreement was signed at the IDEX 2025, with the Spanish company EM&E Group, to facilitate the integration of NIMR’s manufacturing methodologies into EM&E Group’s Spanish facilities. Later in Spain, on the basis of the Jais, a new 6x6 vehicle was developed, called Ferox.
