Jagdtiger deserves some kindness

as everybody knows, Tiger IIs and basically all KT hulls/engines got nerfed with it’s RPM and HP lowered from 700hp and 3000RPM to 600hp and 2500RPM, which is mid for the Tiger II since it’s still a very nimble heavy tank for it’s category, but Jagdtiger is way heavier and it’s not a surprise that this tank already had horrible mobility without the nerf, and now it’s way worse.

so my idea would be to give it the Simmering-Graz-Pauker Sla.16 (X-type engine made by SGP, found in WT in the Tiger II (Sla.16)). it would give it that extra power it needs to compete decently without getting flanked that easily or stuck behind the front line filled with faster tanks (even some heavy ones).

since Jagdtiger uses a Tiger II hull, and the Tiger II (Sla.16) exists in WT, it wouldn’t be too unfair to have the TT Jagdtiger upgraded to the Sla.16 variant, and it would make Jagdtiger a really good tank once again with it’s improved engine.

it would also be quite a good idea to add the Jagdtiger with the upgraded PaK L/66 of 12,8cm, maybe as a 7.0 premium with obviously the Sla.16 to compensate the extra weight due to the longer cannon.
however adding the one with the PaK L/66 is just a random idea of mine.

Or just have its historical engine. The thing is still a beast on city maps where u can hold down a choke point like a tuttel

yeah but it’s still a heavy SPG that takes it’s time accelerate and reach a good camping spot, and the hull traverse is straight up disgusting, i believe a Tutel could run in circles around it and the Jagdtiger wouldn’t be able of catching it.

Did it use that engine?

as i know, yes.
Germany was testing the new Sla.16 on their tanks so they first used it in the Tiger IIs and i believe they used a single one for a prototype Jagdtiger featuring this engine.

u can find a part talking about a Jagdtiger prototype with the Sla.16 installed in the first website i linked in the main topic, here’s the part:
A Sla 16 engine was reportedly installed in the chassis of the experimental Panzerjäger Tiger Ausf. B (Tank Hunter Tiger Variant B or Jagdtiger , Hunting Tiger) and underwent some feasibility tests. Initially, the lower cylinder banks ran hot, but modifications to the cooling fans and air baffles resolved the issue.

there was even a Jagdtiger proposal which used the Type 305 gas turbine engine which was able of producing around 1000hp.
if it’s real, Gaijin could add new Tiger IIs/Jagdtigers using this engine and make them 7.0/7.3, utilizing the mighty 10.5cm of the removed KT and the even longer 12.8cm for the Jagdtiger with the Type 305.

here’s one photo i found, it says it’s from the Jagdtiger with the Sla.16

If there is enough proof of it, i got no issue with the change.

I kind of really want to see the Jagdtiger get its pintel mounted MG above the engine, that its missing in game :) itd be a nothing change but would be cool to defend against aircraft at least a little, since it did have it in real life.

I remember reading something about tests taking place days or weeks before the war ended. Supposedly, it took place in a forest, and some of the trees around it caught fire. I have no solid sources whatsoever.

A small thing I’d like to see is the optional removal of the side spare tracks. I’d like to put my little Balkenkreuz in there :- ) Not to mention the MG mounted on the rear!

Yep, that’s what i had read too.
They did it in forests to make sure allied aircrafts wouldn’t see them and bomb them. The gas turbine engine produced 650°C of heat and that’s why it turned trees on fire.

It is from David Fletcher so there is not a lot of reasons to doubt that this is real. a Jagtiger with a 900-1000HP engine would be cool.

their are multiple ways to buff JT:

  • Decrease loading speed, the thing has two loaders, or;
  • give it the TS round from MAUS and decrease loading time since its a lighter round;

as a side grade give JT mit 88L71, some were fitted with this since there weren’t enough 128mm gun around.

Spoiler

Aside from the 11 early vehicles with a Porsche suspension, the only variant developed was the Sd.Kfz.185.

  • 8.8 cm PaK 43 Jagdtiger – This variant used the 8.8 cm Pak 43 cannon instead of the 12.8 cm Pak 44 due to shortages of the latter weapon. The variant did not enter production

so you get at gun with less punch but with greater RoF and maybe even a few degrees more traverse.
