I currently have 100 games in the J8B and it has been an uncomfortable experience to say the least taking only 56 kills (partly due to WIFI issues but yeah). I have not yet unlocked Aspide although I have been told due to radar problems it is helpful in a very limited way. J-7E even in the last patch was significantly more comfortable as the better RWR alongside the great maneuverability creates a clear playstyle, but J-8B seem to be very hard to find a playstyle as it is designed for high velocity high altitude combat, but currently due to it’s radar you can’t raise altitude. Can we have a few suggestion on how to play J-8B or ways to improve it? I have seen suggestions for PL-5C addition for maybe a 11.7 BR.
Poll for what to do potentially with J-8B:
- PL-5C addition
- PL-5E addition
- BR problem (decompression)
- It’s fine
The radar struggles to lock things, and will lose the target easily, but it will happily lock nothing the the missile will just keep tracking the enemy and you’ll get the kill anyways. I often go two for two with the aspides, it’s also surprisingly good in sim.
Let’s say JF-17A Block I and Chengdu J-10A coming to next major update. JF-17A with IR SRAAM PL-5E and J-10A armed PL-8B
I might hope PL-5E instead PL-5B and could add PL-8B on J-8F
J-8B is strong Flight performance wise, good engines, acceleration, climb, turn etc.
You have a good amount of flares but a poor RWR which doesn’t help at all, you need to use your PL-5 to their best extent, having 4 of them make you strong.
I have around 2/2.5 KD with the plane, even if it’s not an argument imho, you need to learn how to play it, it’s not absolutely broken like the J7E, yet it’s strong.
I just find the J7E even in the last patch more comfortable to play with lmao having a radar makes me want to use the Aspides but it really sucks that you have no head on equipment before that and my main reason to death are: high PL drags me to the floor, AIM7F and Magic 2.
J7E behave and flies like a UFO, it’s completely OP for what it is, only downside is ammo.
J8B isn’t a UFO but you’re strong, aspide aren’t the best to use, they can “work” but rarely do due to the shitty radar
Why does Aspides sometimes looses track even though the radar lock is still on the target? No chaff or anything.
Its a common issue for non Russian SARH missiles. (in game)
It doesn’t happen to skyflash Aim7F/M and Super 530s, but non of the russian ones do have this problem is true.
It does happen to AIM-7F and sometimes AIM-7M. In the last major update AIM-7F was totally unusable due to this problem.
Right cause I seem to die to it a lot, but mostly WVR combat where I try to dodge a missile and ran into another, J8B rwr is seriously helpless.
Type 208A only have pulse but Aspide have doppler seeker so the missile might have it’s own thinking :(
Hi, the J8B can be tricky at first due to its poor radar, although the Aspides are very good. I personally play it climbing to approximately 5,000 meters depending on the map, and doing dives to catch the enemies off guard with the missiles. I use the Aspides in case I find someone at the same height as me or similar and I usually only carry one, but that is already personal preference. Try to play it like that and tell me if it works for you. And remember that the Aspides are launched approximately between 8-5 km away depending on the height. Greetings
My problem is I didn’t grind the chaffs so I struggle to dodge SARHs never mind AIM54s, I could potentially try this strat although I am a bit paranoid of Fakour cause I died to it like 10 times today, plus the Persian tomcats have R27s as well makes them quite hard to avoid.
