Its time to talk about man in the loop

  • Add MIL and DL to Weapons
  • Do not add MIL and DL to Weapons

Such had not crossed my mind until this point, but we have a number of entry level man in the loop weapons which never got the feature that made them unique due to gaijin stating that their range would be too great and that SAMs would not be able to counter them. With the advent of far superior SAMs this patch, this is not really a valid argument against the feature’s addition now.

Heck the Walleye 2 that was added to the game just recently flat out has “Datalink” in the name but no such feature.

I personally say that this feature should be added at least for glide bombs that have it, such as the Walleye 2 and the PGM X000 series, as to both test the waters and allow these bombs to actually be relevant.

Personally I think they just dont want the buccaneer to outshine all the fancy super modern planes with Martels xD

Gonna have to see after the patch hits, from what Mat posted in his video testing the new SAMs against a CAS pilot they might unironically be worse than the pantsir.

Feature would be cool though.

The pantsir remains cracked, it’s performance is still nearly impossible to beat until purpose built mid range SAMs appear, but the SLM does very much so give it a run for it’s money, at least outside of very close range engagements.

Yeah, its a real shame

I would think its the opposite, where the newer SAMs perform better in closer ranges since the newer IR missiles are an actual killbox, its just that its very easy for CAS to operate outside that if its only going to be ~6-8km.

Pantsir has the advantage of a faster missile, being able to use manual lead via user inputs to get around bad tracking or lead (there actual a lot of skill involved with this and makes playing it kinda fun in that aspect), and having a missile that can camp the airspawn if anyone is dumb enough to fly in a straight line for more than 8-10 seconds, its a gimmicky skill check, but there are still pilots who haven’t learned.

I think the multi vehicle aspect will make them more survivable since its harder to pinpoint the radar unit since it doesn’t leave a smoke trail from the origin. But in current GRB maps i’d wager these things are gonna die to tanks more than planes.

Not sure how spaa would be able to counter the spike fired from ground vehicles

As far as I am aware NLOS or later are the only SPIKES that retain MIL, we only have the early makes of the ER and LR which do not have MIL.

Mat wasnt using them properly + slm specifically is broken, + he was getting shot by a full kh38mt barrage.

Iris t should have no problem tracking kh38s if theyre fixed in live i wager goos use if the radar menu will have you much more effective than pantsir at least against su30s.

How so was he not using them properly? The guy playing CAS was also purposely getting more than 2x closer than he needed to. These systems are not like pantsir the skill ceiling for actual launches is rock bottom since its not saclos.

Also this reminds me i ran into an absolute monster in my pantsir that would interlace zunis in with his agms and my radar was picking them all up, wonder if you can do that with s80 and kh38. If that works and people catch on these new spaa are absolute toast.

i wasnt talking how he used them from a skill point of view, these systems are clearly made to be used with the new Radar screen for better Situational awareness, that should allow you to defend against missiles properly, that is if they fix the iris t specifically as they just straight up miss for no reason

It’s a bit strange, that decision.

After all, come to think of it, almost ALL other AGM’s in game rely on kind of “man in the loop” system, the TV and Radar-guided weapons being the exception.

All other weapons rely on the player controling the weapon right until impact: MCLOS, SACLOS, Laser, …

The only thing I see is the potential balance issue making those weapons a bit more powerful especially at long distances.

But that was the whole point of those weapons…

IRIST is missing because it has like no energy being fired from a stationary platform, listed ranges are like for hitting airliners just like in game missiles like the r60 stating it has 10km range when realistically you never fire it beyond 2km.

Even if these missiles have 100% shootdown rate which i really doubt, you will be able to defend against 2 kh38 slingers before your vehicle is essentislly dead because now you have to drive to a cap and rearm, a single typhoon can completely overwhelm you, and if these new radar systems pick up dumb rockets like pantsir does as contacts theres nothing you can do against someone doing what I mentioned above.

Ammo count for these is going to be a huge issue, you probably want to shoot down drones so your entire team isnt scouted, at 12.0 CAS players are much more frequent and are usually significantly better players than you find in any other bracket. I really think these new systems are going to not do a whole lot. And didnt they buff some helis dircm or whatever to be immune to the new missiles so you might even be helpless against them unlike saclos launchers?

And if their radars arent significantly better than the pantsir you are not going to want to stare at that new screen, because you will probably need to visually find planes before your radar picks them up, in the pantsir almost half my launches I see a plane like 2 seconds or more before my radar decides to grab them and when good CAS players that actually bother to play dangerously close within like 6-8km only show themselves for like 5 seconds before terrain masking again that 2 seconds matters a lot.

I honestly think these are going to be dead on arrival skill check platforms, that are going to be miserable to play not only just against CAS but being a giant free kill for ground units which is going to be exceptionally awful on some maps like arctic research station etc.

Thiz is just outright wrong

I really hope it is

Well here’s a new video from today

Spoiler

If you don’t want to watch these missiles are going below mach at like 7km, and a simple low G turns will completely bleed them.

New SPAA looking worse than pantsir at anything but close range.

I think this is a matter of bad implementation rather than anything elses

I don’t really think so, didn’t they drop the SLM for the SL on the IRIST carries? They could instantly fix the issue by giving newer gen surface launched missiles instead of the weakest ones. Maybe they lose too much energy due to drag, but I don’t think its going to magically make them a whole let better.

These missiles just don’t have enough ass to create a big enough effective kill bubble to out range CAS when fired from a stationary platform.

I think its pretty hard to belie e. Theres no way perfomance from a ground launch is so poor it cant intercept what is a straight flying target, these are the apex of short range a2a missiles. This is their jam.

These missiles have a stated effective range of 40km and no its not some “target is a 747 flying straight” loophole.

yeah, very pitty.

Just like they never planned on introducing air to air missiles^^
