Exocet missiles are a series of French anti-ship missiles used since the second half of the 1970s. These missiles can be launched from many types of platforms, including aircraft, helicopters, ships, and submarines.
However, today we are focusing exclusively on the aircraft-launched variant.
The Exocet’s air-launched variant is a weapon that has proven itself on numerous occasions, sinking ships during armed conflicts. It first distinguished itself during the Falklands War, where Super Étendard aircraft managed to hit several British ships and sink HMS Sheffield. But this is not the missile’s only use; it was also fired on numerous occasions during the Iran-Iraq War and the Gulf War, notably hitting the USS Stark.
This missile has been used by nearly 40 countries and remains in active service in many of them. France still operates the Exocet missile from a large number of platforms.
I’m writing this post today for several reasons. First, because over two years ago, the Super Étendard was added to the French fleet without the missile that made it famous, thus crippling an aircraft whose main strength was its ability to fire this missile. Second, because in recent updates, many aircraft from several countries (the Japanese, the British and Chinese) have started receiving anti-ship missiles, and it would be beneficial to expand the list of aircraft and countries with access to them. And third, because a new French aircraft has just been added to the development server, and its role is also to operate the Exocet: I’m referring to the Rafale M, the naval version of the aircraft everyone knows well.
Therefore, I solemnly request the addition of this missile to the French forces in the game.
What would be the advantages and consequences of adding this missile?
- It would satisfy a large number of French aircraft players who have been waiting for this moment for far too long.
- It would add an iconic missile to the game.
- It would revive interest in the Super Étendard, an aircraft that receives far too little attention from both players and developers.
- It would allow for a slight difference in armament between the two Rafales in the game (even though, technically, the Rafale C is capable of using the Exocet).
- This would greatly increase the satisfaction of French players, as there is no better feeling than sinking English ships.
- It would prevent @Fluffy_Bucketles from holding a grudge against me for giving him false hope.
Thank you for taking the time to read this thread, and I hope that if a developer, moderator, or anyone else who can pass on this information will do so, we can finally add this missile.
(And please fix the Super Étendard’s radar.)
It should be noted that the Greek Mirage 2000-5s were modified to allow the addition of Exocet missiles; given how the French Mirage 2000-5F was implemented, it would therefore be possible to add the missile to it as well.
