Its time for better UI configuration

With the introduction of this major update, we are seeing a rather startling increase in the amount of… well… no other way of putting it… Screen clutter.

It is rather… excessive, and yet there is very very little in the way of settings to adjust the UI and what is and what is not shown.

Top Left info Panel

As it currently stands, the information in the top left can only be either adjusted, but it would be nice if each and every single item

  • Throttle
  • IAS
  • SPD
  • MACH
  • ALT
  • RALT
  • Weapons
  • Canon Ammo
  • Flare count
  • Chaff count
  • Fuel
  • Engine Temps
  • Instructor (I actually dont know what this text is meant to be telling to be honest)

could be toggled on and off individually, with most having options to only display information at certains times instead of on or off (such as temps on displaying when either amber or red).

Likewise with weapon selection. There needs to be options for:

  • Whether the name is displayed
  • Whether similar weapons (Such as Aim-9M and Aim-120s) are stacked or displayed on seperate lines
    etc etc

Would even be nice to have an option that ONLY the currently selected weapon is displayed.

But at the moment there isnt even an option to hide weapons without hiding the entire display, which is a real shame.

Radar, RWR and Minimap

Moving onto the next sections of the HUD, the Radar and RWR. These cannot be moved, nor can there size be adjusted independently of adjusting the UI Scale. Nor can their position be changed, they are locked to these locations and as seen above. With all the information on display with a not unreasonable weapons fit. It even clips behind the RWR panel, which just looks terrible.

Having options to adjust the:

  • Position of the Radar, RWR and minimap
  • Scale of the Radar and RWR (one does exist for the minimap)
  • Opacity of the Radar, RWR and Minimap

Some fairly basic configuration settings here would be amazing.

Bottom display panel

This is the major one, and this is the main reason for this post. Look how cluttered it has beocme

Now of course, it is possible to hide this panel, and usually, I always have it properly hidden by pressing and holding the hide button, but it is a real shame there is no configuration for having at least some of these visible if you wanted, each and every option on this bottom bar should be toggleable via a setting menu, so you can choose exactly what is and isnt displayed. Likewise a setting for whether or not the associated keybind is displayed would be appreciated.

And like the others. Settngs for adjusting the scale, opacity and maybe even position, would be of great benefit.

Conclusion

It is 2025, and War Thunders UI configuration is almost none-existant. Not only do UI configuration settings allow players to set up their experiences perfectly for them for whatever reason (I tried to set up an ultra-minimal UI for playing the Typhoon in SB but ultimately gave up because there was one or 2 things that I wanted still to be displayed, but it came with a load of other settings that I could not disable independently) or perhaps more importantly, it adds accessability to the game. The ability to adjust a part of the UI, any part of it to be perfectly tailored for you, is just essential and there is little excuse for the lack of settings currently found in game.

I have only highlighed Air for this thread, but much of what I have said I could easily apply to both ground and naval too. There is a lot of screen clutter and very little way to adjust it meaningfully

Thank you for reading, and I hope that some better UI configuration settings can be added sooner rather than later.

Would you like to see more UI configuraiton options?

I somehow missed this, but it’s a great post. However, it’s just the tip of the iceberg. As I mentioned earlier, starting with the hangar, where all players spend some amount of time, there’s no way to customize it. You can create your own regiment, but there’s no option to customize it (I’m not talking about tags you can earn in regimental battles), even though a regiment is a mini-community of 120 people. These are all small, seemingly insignificant things for the game, but still—open modern games and you’ll see how they keep these aspects up to date. Moving the minimap and adjusting its size is a whole separate issue, as is the general chaos in the game’s control settings. They’ve long needed to sort that out. In air battles, you can change the gun sight for third-person view, so why can’t you change the third-person sight in tanks? Also, as promised, the profile background is barely visible because it’s frankly poorly designed. Overall, this is a great question that has long deserved attention.
I’ll add that the news feeds, events, historical days, and, most importantly, the battle pass are also very outdated and not very intuitive. When my friend started playing the game, I had to explain personal missions and battle pass missions to him for a long time. Simply because they look very unremarkable. It could be done as a separate page, for example, like a folder with documents, where all the relevant information is gathered. And it’s very strange to me that on the forum, which is essentially the only way to convey thoughts to the developers, we only argue about tanks

Yeah, an option putting RWR in line with Radar Screen would be good, so you don’t have to focus both left and right, especially in top tier, your RWR have more vision than your eye lol.
