It's been 1101 days since Air Simulator Battles [Enduring Confrontations] received a new map

Well at least this update they’re updating and bringing all of the bomber/fighter/surveillance planes and airfield defenses up to date which isn’t anything to scoff at. Smin also said Falklands may be possible for sim a few updates ago.
Definitely an improvement to the silent treatment the sim community has been getting these past 3 years, and hopefully a sign of things to come.

Yeah. But those changes should have happened years ago. KInda sucks its been so long.

The thing im looking too for hope is the SEAD and Deep strike events. Those would be perfect for EC… So heres hoping

Well they’re here now and I’m happy about it. I do believe we can still be heard by the devs, and I think now might be a good time when it seems they’re looking at EC again. But it has to be coherent/digestible. I don’t think all those sim improvement threads are doing any good, it’s a toxic breeding ground and mostly just consists of people complaining, disagreeing and arguing about every single aspect of EC. Not many takeaways for a dev looking at it I don’t imagine

I’d love to just establish some communication if anything with the devs, like those community updates. Possibly about how they plan to implement these SEAD/Infrastructure aspects in the future and if Simulator will be a part of it.

i remember a long time ago, I think there was an initiative by enigma89 and nimbal for suggestions in Sim, although I think nothing ended up being added

Yeah from my understanding enigma asked the devs that if he put together a list for sim improvements with the community, if the devs would look at it, to which the devs said yes. A list was sent and then nothing happened

Devs just need to read this reddit post, go through their PDF of how they lay out their maps and balance aircraft, and we’d have an amazing gamemode that both fixed wing and rotary aircraft could exist in with compelling objectives. DCS has run its course imo. War Thunder has all the tools, vehicles, and weaponry there to make such a compelling combat flight sim, clickable cockpits be damned. On top of everything else repeated endlessly to the void by other Air Sim players in this forum, all the thinking and ground work has been done by others, it just needs to be implemented.

I mean even Engima89, one of DCS best youtubers and critics has walked away from DCS at points, and has gone on and on how there’s a big hole in the flight sim genre that could absolutely be filled by War Thunder if they put in the work to implement the changes they need too.

I’ve spent hundreds of dollars on half baked modules for DCS, not because of the modules themselves but the PVP and PVE environments that brilliant server creators made for those modules to be used in a fulfilling way. I’d have no problem spending that type of money in War Thunder if Air Sim got the overhauls it needed.

Exactly, like I really don’t understand the thought process of just sitting on Air Sim. Like lets be real, flight sim players for the most part are cash cows, from hardware purchases to game and DLC purchases. If its an economics thing, the player base will be there. DCS is in the gutter imo, and War Thunder really has the opportunity to fill that space if they just did something with Air Sim

To be fair, they haven’t made too many improvements to the RB gamemode either. I think their plates are pretty full pushing content with 4-5 updates yearly, doing their business model with a relatively small dev team. They have however been consistently adding new maps to RB over the updates and nothing to SB in over 3 years.

Totally agree that WT could fill that space, unfortunately I can imagine their current business model is more lucrative.

Yeah… I can imagine the heavy workload of adding the same vehicle on 4 or 5 nations. Got tired just thinking about it.

Small dev team, spaghetti code, being nagged about hundreds of bug reports, rising each update, 10 nations, filling in gaps, having to focus on the business model - not gameplay issues people on the forum can’t even agree on. I’m sure they dislike the people on here just as much lol.

I can’t imagine how draining it must be to work on the camos for all those different nations

Man, am I glad that I don’t work at Gaijin

Not receiving a new map isn’t the only Ec issue. So naive to think that they will do something about.
Mode is so boring, br adjustment are quite rare, the economy system is a joke compared to rb.
It used to be a small rp booster in EC… Removed! When they added the skill bonus it was in Ec too and then… Removed ofc. So, why should I play a mode that constantly penalize me? In a straight comparison you earn more both SL and RP in RB than in EC

I agree, there are plenty of issues. I believe however that the sim community simply isn’t united enough on those issues. Every sim improvement threads are just filled with toxicity and people disagreeing and arguing on every single aspect of EC. People want different things. I was hoping we could agree on one thing however, getting a new fresh and updated map after 3 years of nothing.

I’ve had the same opinion until they recently started showing consideration towards sim, both in the form of considering Falkland for EC, and in terms of just this update actually returning to EC code for the first time in years and bringing a bunch of the objectives and airfield defences up to date on all the maps.

As for the economy, this directly impacts their business model - and I believe the economy is simply a result of the extra freedom we have in sim. Freedom which can be and is being exploited. We’re quite literally able to create and rig lobbies in our favour, having friends on the enemy team, not being subject to random BR matchmaking, being able to only ever play in down tiers if we please*(with very few exceptions)*, we’re able to respawn. The list goes on.
This is why the useful actions system exists, because without it you can make sim extremely profitable in terms of score per minute - which we’re seeing with our mode becoming absolutely flooded with RB players zombing during events, since mission score isn’t subject to useful actions at all.
The only realistic way to improve the economy, is to start limiting the freedom.

You want RB rewards? Then what are you ready to sacrifice? Ability to create lobbies? Ability to be on different teams from your friends? Ability to have a server browser where you can see the participants and pick & choose whatever map you feel like playing for the day? Ability to never have up tiers again with the BR of the day system? Ability to know exactly what you’re getting yourself into instead of the randomness of RB matchmaking? Because the closer we get to those rewards (which are also time-limited btw), the closer we’ll get to an extremely controlled environment where they literally are only allowed to spawn and take off at the exact same time, 16v16, zero respawns, all having to share 4 bases, no idea whatsoever on the map or BR range. Just press play and you’re at the mercy of Gaijins matchmaker. Just ask for RB without markers…
That being said - I think improvements can and should be made in the SL cost department, limiting the spawn-in cost of some ranks especially so we’re past the point of bankrupting ourselves. However in terms of the RP/SL gain department, I don’t think there’s anything that can be done. It’s clear Gaijin has some form of respect for the freedom of EC, which are the things people actually love about the mode, I hardly think people are just here for locked 1pp view and no markers… And is why They nerfed the rewards instead of giving us a matchmaker when people started abusing the lobbies and filling YouTube with Air simulator “1 million SL per hour sim exploit!!” videos.

I think Gaijin listens if you get enough support on a topic. I don’t think it works when people can’t agree on what they want in the first place however. A lot of time and effort is wasted by sim players on the forum thinking Gaijin will take the cesspools that is the sim-threads seriously, now that is naive. (and I’ve been one of them). Unfortunately the sim community has dwindled in the past year and spirits are at all time lows it seems…

I want to play the mode I like without bankrupting and with the chance of progressive through the game.
I’m starting having enough of this shit and I’m planning to move away

Yes, we have the freedom of being constantly outnumbered (if you want to play it’s like that, since everybody on the ally side). The freedom of playing a boring mode where top tier is almost unplayable. Players vulturing the af waiting for someone to spawn and spam fox-3. The freedom to let a mode dying because that’s what is happening

That’s, like, your opinion

Costs are really high in certain brackets
And for top tier we need maps and airfield AA (which we’re getting this patch, will see)

But it’s not dying, not everything is about the top tier

Also IDK there are enough lobbies with full axis teams. Or you meant allies as in “BLUEFOR”? Then yeah, finding a nice lobby is harder.
They mostly stick on good maps though.

Costs are high in almost all bracket, unless you want to play tier2. Starting from rank3 you can find planes more expensive than a top tier jet (especially on axis side). We pay the WHOLE repair cost before spawning, you can do a good sortie, but if you die before the “useless” actions timer expires you earn almost nothing, you just wasted time.

I’ve enough of being forced to play some trees (and being constantly outnumbered) otherwise you can’t find a lobby, a decade of this and you can imagine why I’m so upset.

I stick on top tier because the spotting is terrible, it used to be good years ago, but now is crap and i don’t want to ruin my eyes just because I can’t spot a plane that should be clearly visible. Not to mention client side clouds.

I’m fine with RB right now and when I want to play sim… I just play other games, better ones, man even IL-2 1946 is a better sim than WT
