Italy's AA problem

Yeah

o this looks great!!! a very possible top tier aa for italy

Right now could otomatic get DART? It was meant for the same gun so in theory it could receive DART

Additionally could VULCANO 76mm be used on otomatic or draco, could prove interesting as potential artillery feature

Doesn’t have the electronics to use them iirc

Oh boi there’s a lot to unpack here.

For now I recomend to use the Strela as jets tend to fly above the combat zone and with it you can basically establish a no fly zone.

The Draco ain’t an option as half of it would be guess work(what was seen was only a mock up) and probably impossible to actually make as the turret would weight too much.
The OTOMATIC doesn’t have the eletronics to guide the DART.

The Romanian CA-95 looks great but the missiles are underwhelming and would probably go at around 9.0

The Kub is interesting although low in ammo.
We could also get the SURN CZ, a project developed by the czech Retia and MBDA Italy to modernize the Kub with the Aspide 2000 and new radar.

The Astra with Aspide launcher is probably the best option but it may require deployment.

Bro why are you all sleeping on CAMM

Italy is getting them pretty soon, will use both CAMM and CAMM ER

Even if they don’t get the ilauncher with the IRST, it could still be added because small details like that never bothered gaijn in the past.

CAMM is actually a viable solution (ie real and in-service) plus it would finally allow Italy to be good in something (unfortunately for this reason I don’t see it being added)

Which Is?

israel is getting the spyder, which imo is the sickest AA.

camm would be cool as hell

On aircraft for example, only a few nations use gbu-39 and usually only on F35, and ingame most top tier aircraft get SDB, this is the same for brimstones

On tanks for example T80B has thermals, when in real life barely ever got thermals or it was just for testing

Also plenty of tanks have ammunition they shouldn’t have, or lack the ammunition they should have

With CAMM even if Italy doesn’t install IRST on its launcher, it could added for balance and so that it could be implemented ingame. But honestly we will just have to wait for CAMM to be delivered

Zero tanks in War Thunder have munition they can’t fire IRL.
And all but arguably Leclerc is lacking ammo for their BR.

Not that, I meant like some tanks have ammunition not really used by that country/tank often

Good thing we’re playing tanks and not real-life militaries.
Realism > LARPing.

I didn’t talk about the CAMM and CAMM ER as they are the most famous system and obvious to come at somepoint but I doubt we are going to have them anytime soon considering how top notch they are.

Eh we’ll see with the new stuff coming this update, CAMM does have weaknesses like multipathing

It’s a Fox3, It will be very marginal.

So far trying to spade this thing has been abysmal, its constant uptiers to 12.3, where almost any aa outranges or outperforms me, i genuinely have no idea what to do besides maybe going tank hunting, but then until i get the apfsds i dont think i can do much with SAP. Any advice?

For me it’s great, especially with the sap.

Here as some tips from when I have been spading it:

  1. Take it usually as a last or 2/3 vehicle, it isn’t good for start of battle

  2. I carry 1/4 of my ammo as SAP and the rest as HE VT, your primary job is AA and whilst it isn’t the best AA it’s still good. You can get like 5 AA kills if it’s a CAS lobby and everyone is dumb. If they are smart, AA kills become a lot more difficult

  3. Aim for cupola on every tank, you can one shot tanks if you hit cupola well. Abrams is a great example with this, and even better as you go higher in BR the Abram cupola gets bigger and weaker (especially on M1A2)

  4. Fire sparingly and aim well, it seems like you have a lot in the autoloader but you really don’t, and it takes a decent amount of time to reload the autoloader to a good amount. Additionally I have often ran out of ammo completely due to firing to fast and too often

Apparently, the Hungarian KUB SAM systems are further modernized M3s.

In the 1980s, all Kub equipment was upgraded to the M3 level. At that time, the destruction zone was increased again, and the jamming protection of the homing head was further improved. The system also became more effective against high-speed and fast-moving targets, ultimately increasing the probability of destruction by 10-15 percent.

The Kub weapon system was jointly modernized by the Hungarian and Polish military industries between 2001 and 2002. As a result of the modernization, the self-propelled target detection and tracking stations, as well as the launch platforms, underwent life extension and development. After the modernization, the fire guidance locators were only required to illuminate the target after the missile was launched, thus increasing the survivability of the battery.
