Is turning off radar worth it for IR planes?

Hey guys it’s me again.

Turning off radar seems to be the most ideal situation for a IR plane that relies on side shots and maneuvering.

But when you look at it, other than [OPERATION] maps, the battleground is cramped with “noise”, you will see multiple planes in your RWR at a given time and it’s not like you could tell the range anyway.

I use my radar to lock on targets in the sky briefly and see their range. If they are like 15km I’ll rush towards them to send them IR Missiles.

in my experience, the success doesn’t seem affected much by using radar or not.

Then you have the bad RWR planes like mig 23 that if you’re not locking onto them, it will just show up as a ping; that threat could be 100km or 4km away.

In ARB yes, you should turn your radar off when only using IR missiles, it stops all RWR pings, and checking the range isn’t really a need as they’ll be “spotted” by your pilot long before you are in range
