Not really. M-51 are a complete joke compared to the Tiger.
You can’t fathom how many times the Tiger was my biggest threat using the M-51.
50% of time the round will either be absorbed into nothingness or the damage is so bad that you just took out something that isn’t the gunner.
First of all, you can not shoot the lower plate, because it won’t stop him from firing back.
You can not hit the glacis because it will just bounce somewhere or just deal no damage.
Which leaves you with the small upper plate, that can get easily result in hitting too high or too low to deal zero damage or you go through and only take out crews in the line of fire, which isn’t good enough.
You have to hit the gunner!!
So you can aim for the turret, right? Well you taking out two crews at best, or maybe nothing because you have to hit him right in the head or shell will jus strike the overlapping part of mantlet and turret, probably dealing no damage.
When he’s over angled, APHE would just go through the lower side, but HEAT hits the overlapping roadwheels, again no damage.
There are few tanks that are so annoying to destroy with HEAT-FS as the Tiger.
Panthers can get killed in one shot from the front, either knocking out the crew or by hitting the ammo that is always behind the driver.
Then there’s the fact that the Tiger is much more stable compared to the M-51. Even when you start to aim first, before your gun is stable, the Tiger has the same chance to fire at you.
The M-51 is one of the worst tanks to take out a Tiger, since any other tank firing APHE or even AP is going to deal massive damage when hitting anywhere in the sides.
I tested it a bit in protection analysis and it seems that due to the recent HEAT buff, the damage is now good enough to have a much higher chance to disable the Tiger with HEAT.
The roadwheels and tracks also don’t seem to block any damage.
So it’s probably not as bad as I remembered. Might take out the M-51 again too see how it performs now.
Simply wrong. Especially when sniping it is GOATED at taking them down.
Hull-down. It’ll almost completely nullify a Tiger’s APHE, for the mantlet’s really all it can aim for.
Well, duh. Transmission will absorb the damage anyway.
Not to be rude but just aim better.
If you know where to hit, they aren’t so dangerous. When angled, I tend to hit the centre of mass or ammorack to the side of the hull, depending on how much they’ve angled.
Untrue. Simply aim for the ammo rack to either side of the Tiger…
That’s like the one thing the M-51 is good at. You stay at range and snipe. Which is something German tanks can do as well but they are much better up close, even though they are still outperformed by other nations.
The M-51 is like the worst tank to ever do anyting other than to hide and snipe.
Just aim better is not a solution for an obvious problem, that the Tigers upper front plate is a relatively small target compared to other tanks entire hull or turret.
Just because it’s possible doesn’t mean it’s reliable, particular when you’re at some distance.
The Tiger is so effective at range, because even when shell can pen the front like butter, they still need to hit that small area.
A Tiger that doesn’t take full ammo has only shells behind the driver and the rest at the bottom.
That’s a very small area to hit compared to the entirety of the vehicles side with APHE.
It’s just to the bottom, not necessarily behind the driver. But there’s a smaller area to the left of the driver. If they’re angling to the right then that’s no problem but indeed that’s partially true.
In theory it isn’t a solution but in practice it is.
Fair point. I’ve had plenty of mishaps trying to go for the UFP lmao
While it may be a small target when it does go through it either cripples or knocks out the tank, particularly when aiming for the center of mass. Thus I consider it to be reliable. Your opinion after all.
So you are going to drive along at a permanent angle lol
I think just sitting about sniping is one of the reasons why Germany have such bad win rates in low mid tier.Tanks made for hiding and sniping but when it comes to attacking especially in villages or towns, nobody has faith in their heavy tanks.Made worse by HE slinging 70s/80s Artillery spamming the game.
6BT was the last BR I found to be playable, fair and fun now I would say it has gone down to below 5BR
Your point is invalid. Obviously if someone has seen where I am or the position is compromised I’m going to find a new position to go to. So, this conversation serves zero purpose with the thread.
No it’s not ,you can’t angle on the move ,angling does nothing now we have HE throwers all over the game.Played loads of games in the Tiger. It was fun ,now it isn’t ,simple.Could say the same for 6BR Germany in general.
It actually does do something against HE. Secondly I’m not talking about when you’re on the move. I’m talking about when you have a good position in which you can angle and ambush enemy players from. So, I don’t know what point your trying to make with the whole move and angle at the same time thing.
I have probably played more games as Germany than you have played games.Yes it’s is a broad observation but if you look at the Win rate charts around low mid BR Germany is shockingly bad ,up there with USA at top tier.I struggle to believe it to a degree but the only reason I can possibly give is that in some BRs German vehicles are very defensive and open to being hit on the move at the sides, especially in built up areas.
Then we have many SP guns also better for defence. Nashorn,Waffentrager ,all better for hiding and sniping. I have studied replays and looked at my own play and found this to be true to a degree. it is observation not hard statistics so it is open to debate but even at 4BR all the Germans have as an actual tank is the captured T34.
Everything else is an SP or Tank-destroyer.2-3BR Germany attack much better because they have the Panzer IV but tactics seem to change later on after 5 -6 BR.Then German tree has much lighter post war tanks with no armour and tactics change again .
It is harder trying to take and hold a zone in a fixed gun vehicles or a big tank that is vulnerable at the sides.
My point is ,we all know the supposed tactics for using the Tiger and they are quite defensive.Flanking, using cover, using range and armour and yes ,angling possibly but while that is going on others are taking zones and pushing forward.
