Ten years ago when I tried the first version of WT, there were additional missions etc., but almost all of them are limited to certain planes. And it’s ingame rewards aren’t worth the time compared to arcade PVP.
Now my sons have started playing, we are looking for some cooperative missions or PVE, but, as I see, nothing significantly interesting has been added over the past 10 years. Some missions are just bugged. We tried a couple of dynamic campaigns: it was boring, also too little exp and lions gained for completion.
Even low-level AB PVP is unfriendly for beginners: in 1.3 we meet level 100 “pros”. Which has a top crew, all upgrades and the best aircraft for this BR. Literally, in fourth battle, after creating new account, we got level 100 clan asshole, when almost all our team are 5- noobs. There is no fun in being “food”.
Is Heli PVE good or is it not worth wasting time on leveling up three accounts to tier 5?
Maybe there are some modes for ground or naval battles, where there are few “pros” and beginners can play normally?
You can squad up and play air assault mode perhaps?
Otherwise you should probably stop playing with them for a while so they can take advantage of the new player protection that last as few games vs mostly bot opposition.
heli pve is fine, it’s just most people quit early and you need more fellas to finish up the match or else it’s just you grinding the heck out of the pve session alone
air assault is fun but also fell under the conundrum of how many players going in (also really wish for realistic air assault too since the one we have is arcade)
Yeah, we tried air assault. Ironically, for starter aircraft this mode looks more difficult compared to BR 3.7, so we win zero battles. Just couldn’t destroy all the waves of bombers.
If there was the naval assault mode… There are a lot of naval operations in World War II, game devs could implement something like the assault on Okinawa, as PVE mode.
for GB I don’t know much, but on USSR you may have a struggle on start since Mi-4AV is so slow, but as soon you get to Mi-24A should be alright (although still a struggle grind since it doesn’t have Falanga on stock unlike Mi-4AV which has 2 on stock loadout)
I have two lawn mowers IRL, no simulators needed. :)
Let me explain with MMORPG. We are playing for fun, not for top ratings etc. Just casual. We don’t want high level content, because of it’s time spending, skill requirements, guild raids every day 7/365 “until raid dungeon reset”. Got this in WOW in 2004, now I’m too old for many hours of non stop hardcore playing.
For example, we want normal difficulty, just to beat some dungeon mobs, maybe some mobs beat shit out of our group too. Grab some exp and possibly new gear. And will go to another dungeon another day or not day but week.
And we want that with real planes, tanks or battleships, not with orcs and trolls. They are funny too, but for now my childs intrested in existed war machines.
PVP modes are not the solution for us. I feel that my reaction and eyes are no longer the same as when I was 20. Children, on the contrary, are not yet old enough to try to “be pro”. Maybe later, but not now.
I think the Dynamic/Historical Campaigns have been left to languish since the games introduction, they also don’t really reward anything other than a pittance of Silver Lions and Convertible Research Points.
Assault Air/Ground Arcade and Heli PvE are the only real PvE modes that reward anything, and they haven’t had much attention either.
[PvE] Helicopter Battles is just a playpen for Helicopters to unlock modules, crayons not included, there’s no real objective for the team to work towards; in fact it’s more accurate to say most games the players are working against each other to try and earn the most points (even though you really don’t earn that much after 300 Scoreboard points per 10 minutes, it doesn’t stop the better Helicopters in the lobby farming 1200+ and leaving next to nothing for anyone else). It’s not helped by the lack of any failure state, AB mechanics allowing mid-air reloads so there’s no teamwork between players to manage their payloads and many such cases of “suddenly anti-air” spawning directly around and/or underneath you.
Assault Air Arcade is very boring, the difficulty is cheap, even in Mach 2 Jets it feels glacially slow paced and I just don’t find the mode very engaging. And I guess Gaijin doesn’t find it engaging either: the last matchmaking queue hasn’t had any real updates so you can (eventually) unlock a new Rank V Jet like the famous WW2 Me 262 and find yourself in a team of F-14 Tomcats. The mode desperately needs attention, preferably a complete overhaul.
Assault Tank Arcade is the best of the bunch though it still has it’s own problems. The matchmaking is fairly reasonable, learning the best spots and routes to intercept tank hordes can be rewarding and the mode offers some variety will killstreak airspawns and it also lets you use your own unlocked Helicopters. Still, the enemy airstrikes each wave can be very annoying, playing SPAA to counter that isn’t very engaging (not much for you to do after destroying the 1-2 aircraft that spawn unless you’re in something that can also threaten the AI hordes), spawning/respawning in the open can lead to several deathloops with little you can do about it, the less said about Sinai the better and overall the game is quite slow (25 min average, 3-4,000 RP without premium if you win, next to nothing if you lose, this is the same for Air).
Well, to unlock Helis you will have to grind both Air and Ground trees to rank 5 as you said. Without premium, and as a casual player you can expect it to take some time.
I have approx 480 hours in this game and only have the starter helo for Britain at 8.3. The SPAAs like Gepards will tear you to shreds if not extremely careful, which is especially challenging if you wanted to sit back and relax but get slapped out of the air.
Not to mention, to get EXP at an acceptable rate to get the helo you will have to engage in pvp combat. And there are some extremely good guys (at the lower starting level) out there that can give you a hard time. As the game freely lets a level 100 veteran with 1000 hours match with someone fresh out of bots mode.
At the end of the day, it’s your time, but that’s my 2 cents. Of course you can get enjoyment from other modes but I really do not recommend this approach when I see your requirements.
I have a premium account, it’s not a problem. I find it pointless to purchase sets or individual units for countries for which I have a completely unexplored tech tiers and a level 1 crew. Or having a much higher BR than I have opened. Prem acc are enought for now.
I can research the GB tier 5 jet atm, but want to research the entire tier 4 first.
As for PVP, i’m played AAB alone, without my sons. There are a lot of “pro” in BR 4.3 now. Maybe because of Romanian jet event, don’t know. What i know well, it’s really boring, in much situations on stock planes there is literally nothing I can do. I can’t run, hide or twist enemies. Especially if i take bomber like Halifax. All i can do are running to closest target as fast as i can and believe what i can drop the bombs before get ripped to pieces by this “glorious marshal” on BF109 or other OP shit. Otherwise i get around zero exp.
It’s really stupid, there should be not only tech BR, but skill rate too. Players like me should not get into the same round with “pro” and vice versa. Especially, there should be no groups of “pro”. A few days ago, I saw a group of four of same clan on the opposing team, they won easily.
Unfortunately there are not many games with similar content. But I wouldn’t want to play and suffer.
Maybe i must try ARB instead of AAB. Maybe there are fewer 48% “allskilled pros” rushing to my plane right from their respawn point.
