Is there a way to turn off TWS's IR seeker slaving?

One frustrating aspect about TWS is how inaccurate it is. But it seems to be even worse for IR missiles.

TWS have very slow refresh speed and very low tolerance for notching, which is when planes are vulnerable to IR missiles.

I believe it can even screw up some shots like how multipathing planes screw up the lock on magic 2, reduced FOV means it just shoots at the ground with no target.

Is there a way to turn off TWS’s IR slaving feature?

Turn off the radar?

I personally either lock the radar and turn of the lock instantly to have the ir seeker find the target then launch, or i switch to HMD mode and freelook since the TWS mode is only really good for launching ARH at longer ranges. If you’re in range to use IR missiles there is no real need for the search function of the radar anyway.

  • Open Settings > Controls > Aircraft.
  • Use the search box and look for “Radar On/Off”, “Radar Power” or “Radar Toggle” and bind a convenient key. Turning radar off prevents TWS from slaving IR seekers to the radar track.
  • Search for “HMD mode”, “Switch to HMD” or “Toggle sensor cue” and bind a key for quick switching. HMD forces the seeker to use the helmet view which avoids radar slaving behavior.
  • In combat, press your radar toggle or HMD key when you want pure IR engagements. It is much faster than fiddling with radar menus midfight.
