I’ve been considering grinding for the Su-30 but am not sure if it’s worth it. I’ve heard a lot of mixed things so I wanna get some opinions first before I commit to it
its pretty good, and fun plane. very good radar which was the problem in earlier flankers, very deadly in <25km ranges but r77-1 can reach further if theyre flying at you. if youre good at notching and defending against radar missiles youre going to have alot of fun with aggressive playstyle. r77-1 still loses alot of energy if your target is maneuvering but its alot better than r77.

What BR are you at now? IMO playing russia top tier since mig29 was our best, this is best plane we have gotten in terms of competitiveness at launch of the update.
I think the su33 is also really solid, 13.0 can be a feast or famine BR though.

From someone who has only been fighting against them. its very good.
It might not have the strongest FM, but its certainly not a slouch either, but where its real strength lies is in its insane AAM payload and great radar.
R-73s are easily one of the best AAMs at top tier at the moment, especially on anything with HMD that the Su-30 does have.
R-77-1s are one of the strongest ARH missiles at top tier at the moment, they slightly lack in max range compared to the Aim-120 and they arent quite as scary as the MICA EM at close range, but are defiently a very strong A2A Missile. (you may have heard the R-77 isnt very good, and I think there is a degree of exageration there, but the R-77-1 has none of the issues the R-77 seemed to have)
R-27ER/T are still both highly capable missiles when used right and in the right situation.
You are able to run 14x AAMs in total with a various mix of these 4 missiles and that is far more than anyone else currently.
Combine with the decent radar and you can quite happily avoid many of the issues other top tier aircraft are currently facing with the M-Scan bugs.
Last time I fought a Su-30SM in a Typhoon FGR4. The Su-30 simply shot down every single AMRAAM I fired at it and then ultimately killed me because I ran out of missiles. That is insanely powerful and once you master that combo, you will be unkillable.

I’m currently at 12.7 with the Yak 141, but my Su line is still at the Su-17M2. I did the math and it’d take me around 1.7m rp to get the Su-30 which is why I really wanna know if its worth it first.
Also I completely agree with you on 13.0. The planes at that BR are so OP in a downtier yet completely useless in an uptier. I’d be grinding the Su-33 rn if 13.0 wasn’t uptiered so often
Yeah I’ve been worried about the poor FM performance but the missile loadout seems worth the tradeoff. 14 amazing missiles on 1 plane is hard to beat
It might not be Typhoon/Rafale level, but Id say its equal to the F-15E bar climb rate and potentially better than the F-18
HMD+R-73 closes any gap in FM quite a bit.

This is a problem to the Su27 as a whole. It is not bad but it is pretty unbearable at time. If you have played literally any other top tier Jet you can feel it. But what matter is about the kit. The Su30sm , while being a fatter duck (You could literally feed an entire city with this thing if it was edible) and a weaker engine than the Su27SM.
In exchange you got a better avionic and better Fox-3, a sidegrade to AIM-120B and you can carry up to 12 of them. That all you get for the Su30sm.
Overall worth grinding, it is essentially on the same level at F15E. Not to EF level but good enough.

People who badmouth it definitely have a huge skill problem, and I’m 101% sure of that, great R77-1s, an excellent radar, good flight model, and even with thrust vectoring which helps you a lot in dogfights if you know how to use it, just see how well I perform in it, you can go in confident kid, but obviously you need to tame this beast to unlock its full potential, and not just go around complaining that the plane is bad like the others without skill.

Yeah. I’d say the Eurofighter and Rafal are still better.

After playing with the US/UK/GER/RUS/FR current top tier and making a comparison between them.
Overall - best I can describe it is the SU30 is a fantastic airshow plane.
a. Handling : Really good but also at great cost of energy with a relative slow recovery. Feels a bit sluggish at speed and at low speed any high-jerk maneuver leading to post stall you in end a situation where it feels like the thrust vectoring fights the aircraft. Basically - avoid losing in-line thrust as much as possible.
b. Radar & Weaponry : Great improvement over the other SU variants but limited DL is still a factor. The R77-1 is not what people made out it is gonna be. Personally I would like a nerfed version of the R77M to compete to an extent with the AIM120/RB99 as the R77-1 is still a high drag missile due to its “grated” fins. In ground battles it is somewhat meta at the moment.

In the end - each person plays each craft differently and it will be up to you to get a feel for it. Thankfully, we do not all like the same thing and we are not all good with the same thing.

su33 is not solid, its much more than that its absolutely insane, the only limiting factor is the MASSIVE uptier struggle 13.0 is
, the r77-1 is absolutely a great missile, id take it over the amraam any day
