Is the coastal grind going to continue to remain in the state its in?

I’ve ground every TT for Germany and Russia almost to or to completion. But I just can’t bring myself to grind out coastal, its too daunting even for someone like me that can pump out 500k+ RP in ground or nearly a million in air in a single day sometimes.

Bluewater right now is an extremely comfy grinding experience if you buy a premium battlecruiser/battleship and just play arcade, your lifespan in these is long enough to take advantage of racking up a good amount of activity time which is 60%+ of your rewards, but in coastal vessels you just don’t live long enough to get much RP out of these matches, the SL rewards which are a huge draw for naval are not present in coastal. You basically have to sweat your nuts off every match in these things and you get like half of what you get in Bluewater for RP, and 3-4x less SL. The coastal trees are also in some cases larger than blue water, Russian coastal has like what 6 or so more vessels there than their Bluewater.

The selection of premiums is also extremely subpar in many cases from a grinding standpoint, or you are looking at 50-100+ dollar event vehicles. And because you don’t live particularly long in these you want multiple premium/talisman ships because unlike air/ground where que times are instant, leaving a match after you die in your 1 premium coastal ship is a gigantic penalty due to que times being so long.

Coastal vessels aren’t just something playable at their respective BRs they are crucial parts of top tier naval battles in matches that feature capture points, they are fun to use there too, its just getting them is a gigantic pain in the ass, and the completionist in me wants to grind out these trees but I’m looking at 500+ if not more matches in a premium coastal ship (thats 16 hours sitting in que with 2 min pops), with premium time, not being able to just basically afk like you can in bluewater and having to play at 100% at all times, dealing with horrible compression at these BRs where you have cruisers and destroyers coming into the kiddie pool after a few minutes into a match, the significantly lower lifespan on average eating into reward potential, SL modifiers horrible compared to bluewater, 300k+ RP for 4.x ships its just depressing.

The fact people got to grind these with bluewater before the tree separation makes me envious and I wish I bothered with naval back then. I assume the RP required for these was like what 4x if not more less as well?

Real, I want some of the top coastal vehicles but I cannot fathom grinding 400k rp for a 4.7 vehicle it makes zero sense

Back in the days the SKR-1 was like 99k RP, and while it was a nice headstart, still having to grind postsplit boats is a pain indeed. Unfortunately coastal is somehow more dead than naval, and it becomes toroughly unenjoyable from 3.3 and up. I wouldn’t hold my breath for something to actually happen soon after Richelieu and friends.

As far as the grind being tedious, yes, but if you don’t pick a pay to lose premium it’s alright.
For Germany the M-802 is great, you essentially buy half a DD with a coastal spawn. Lübeck is also very nice, but at 105 bucks, not really worth it. Also if you wait for the autumn sale, M-802 at -50% is peak value for money.

For the Soviet unfortunately their premium lineup isn’t that good. The MPK Pr.12412P is outright bad since it has light fleet DM for a 4.3 frigate, it has qualities but it will guarantees that your grind will be as bad as possible.
Rosomacha is slightly better with a heavy fleet DM, unfortunately 100mm only firing HE are not cutting it against bluewater, and you’ll be more target practice than anything else.
That pigeonholes you into the MBK pr.186, which is actually alright. The Soviet riverboats, in the words of Todd Howard “It just works.”, it’s nothing special, but it’ll get you trough the tree, and at 3.3 it’ll still have plenty of opportunities to be played with it’s peers rather than be bluewater food.

It is taking me longer to unlock and spade Italy coastal then it took for me to spade and unlock all of Italy air

They gotta fix coastal bruh, either completely OP vehicles at a horrible BR or just a literal raft at 5.0.

When they announced the decompression they specifically said they’re not doing anything about Coastal right now. It sucks but I guess Gaijin wants to take things slow.

Even lower tier blue water is depressing

Not even 10k for a match like this, with premium ship+time, you just don’t live long enough to rack up enough activity, 8 minutes here in this match which is pretty long for a destroyer/light cruiser. It’s virtually impossible to break 1krp/min, only barely doing it this match going absolutely ham.

Problem here is my average life span is more like 5 minutes at best? And my matches if I do well thats gonna be 5-6kp, but I have to sit in que for 2 minutes some times and that eats into the grind, and just to unlock a rank 4 ship with every premium advantage possible you are looking at 2 hours of grinding. Really think the only way you efficiently grind this out is buying a 6.3+ premium ship that can actually live long enough. Which is a shame because I honestly think these lower tier matches are probably more fun than just slugfests at top tier.

And up tiers are just might as well J out as soon as you take damage and go next, 5.x ships fighting 6.x is just not fun at all. Anyone that starts grinding out naval now for the big ships that doesn’t buy their way to top tier, god forbid isn’t using a cheaper premium mid/low tier ship, and even worse doesn’t have premium is going to give up really fast, its really no wonder why naval is less than 5% of matches played in a month.

Coastal branch were always weaker compared to Bluewater, if Gaijin added cruiser anti-ship missiles to coastal ships, which there are some examples that does operate this kind of weapon could justify the harsh conditions to research Coastal navy in War Thunder.

Probelm is there is no “coastal matches” above rank II, if you are playing coastal, you are fighting blue water at and above rank III, and its kinda miserable unless you are in specific coastal ships. I don’t understand why they seperated the trees if the matches are the same, and both play their part across all BRs in naval even top tier.

So actually grinding coastal is just a pain, horrible rp/requirements aside.

As I’m saying, fighting cruiser missiles which usually flies in water level is not very welcoming for big targets, it could be a great addition to promote Coastal branch, if this is not the case, in my opinion maps should be better designed or spawns must be changed, some coastal ships are forced to spawn together to bluewater ships.

Fun fact, coastal has one of the coolest map concept in the entirety of WT with Drowned City.
I have never played that map since it got added because high tier coastal HAS to be bluewater fodder, thus it’s locked to 3.0…

Gaijin were really stupid to put coastal grinds for vehicles with BRs like… 4.3… to have the same top tier grind as a rank 8 jet essentially. Combined with the fact nobody cares about little speedboats over giant warships? Not a soul plays coastal.

Coastal is a lot fun, at least in higher tier like 6.0+ matches where you have room to breathe, ironically I think they are worse to play at their respective brs because you just have a parade of destroyers and cruisers coming into the coastal area almost immedietely.

Coastal also basically decides 3cp top tier matches for better or worse.

Problem is probaly 90% of the coastal vessels are useless in this regard and a lot of the ones you actually want for higher tier gameplay jave a combination of being fast+having good torps or things to punch up.

In my experience of grinding coastal in overall,

Grinding the coastal tech tree can be summarised in three sentences.

  1. Feed yourself to both German/soviet mains from start till very end.
  2. Or you can buy an expensive premium, which is a shamelessly overpaid price instead.
    Then you can skip a lots of boats which has good looks but are worthless. but you will get slapped by those Pr.206 anyway.
  3. Both grind will be shamelessly boring and painful thanks to the insane amount of RP required in Rank 5 coastals.

It would be great if other nations also had 4.0BR+ torpedo boats as options. :|
and overall discounts in RP for researching.

I think it would be neat if they had multipliers for punching up classes, like if i sink a bb in my 3.7 torpedo boat I should get significantly more than the base reward for sinking a bb, which is higher but not by too much.

I think ive given up completely on the coastal grind and im just gonna use premiums/event stuff. Luckily there are at least some nice options for the nations i play like the skr7, bussard, and some premium fast torpedo slingers. Ive been playing this game like a job recently and honestly I think youd have to be a pyscho to grind out coastal or only play WT for naval and nothing else.
