yeah thanks for reminding that, the also have 8 thousand attack helicopters, thousands of planes, lots of aircraft carriers and submarines, 39% of the global defense spending, 3.5 % is Russia…but then they tell Russia wants to attack nato rofl. Art 5 true meaning is to protect us from Godzilla I guess
thats a pretty fun conspiracy theory ngl
The whole country collpased lol
so did my country’s empire but we are still making quality stuff.
🤔
Actually the Cheiftains pretty thoroughly hard countered anything the soviets had when it entered service in the 1960s and continued doing that for years. When it first entered service nothing in the soviet arsenal could even pen its armour.
The biggest failure of the British tank design though, has been building upon the Chieftains success but not innovating with something new. Both the CR1s and CR2s use the same engine for example, and whilst its a really really reliable engine, its woefully down on power
not even T-62? or 64
I beleive so. At least it wasnt until they developed a new round for it or something. But yeah, Cheiftains were a really good tank.
with how well angled the windsor turret was none of the available ammunition for those tanks would get through. on the lower plate obviously yes
looks like T-62 HEAT would punch right through it though
same with T-62M-1 HEAT and 3BM28
Shape Charges are the only thing that really could do anything to chieftain when it entered service in the 60s. When Stillbrew was added onto chieftains from the mk10 nothing at the time could go through at all
lets compare apples to apples, mk 10 is an 80’s tank, so i’ll put it up against T-80 and T-72
The Leyland L60 was the biggest threat Chieftain crews faced : )
“The Chieftain was a great tank, so long as it broke down in a good firing position”
:P
Yeah love that one : )
Much needed British humour from having first hand experience of British kit in general.
“a great tank as long as it broke down in the right spot” the L60 was an ok engine by the end of its service but lord it was bad at first
looks like 80’s heat shells and gun ATGM can pen its turret. 3BM42 can pen the turret in some spots, but not consistently.
9M119 and HEAT are the biggest threats at range even on the mk10
Again that is Govt meddling and NATO insisting on stupid things then changing their mind.
Overall the best simulator for what might happen when a fairly modern MBT meets a Russian counterpart is this game. All this speculation is just that.
Like the internet the glory days have passed when it comes to battle field correspondence ,Vietnam killed that and the Falklands really put it to bed. You will never know how many M1 were lost to T72s if any were.
They would rather admit to friendly fire than a tank that is susceptible to enemy fire.Same in Ukraine,in this era of amazing communication we have virtually no news about tank on tank confrontation.
Tanks dont seem to actually find other tanks very often in ukraine as there’s drones knocking them all out or the platoons are too valuable to be sent out. Certainly spotty coverage too
It is certainly a drone war now. had this discussion with a US Marine vet on here.He didn’t seem to get that the game has changed and my knowledge and his was redundant. The facts are the facts. NATO MBTs are getting stuck in the mud more that Ruskie tanks 20 tons lighter and in drone city that is a death sentence.
You can’t even nip to a take a dump without death from above in Ukraine. No need to poo in this game is there?
