I’m new to the forums so the tags might be wrong.
the LFP has more protection that the turret… should i even need to continue. It almost like someone flipped the protection of the turret and the Hull armor to troll.
Steel Beasts is a software primarily for training crews.
It doesn’t attempt to be realistic in tank movement [cause it’s not].
And it has a very baseline armor and munition simulation because it’s not attempting to simulate those perfectly either.
Steel Beasts of course is another piece of software, and that alone means it cannot be used for comparison.
The fact its primary purpose is to train crews is another.
I cannot comment on that specific accuracy other than it cannot really be trusted anymore than War Thunder’s.
That’s because is the first generation M1, which has less armor in the turret cheeks, in fact the HEAT penetration in the turret is lower than the LFP, meaning there is some air in between the steel RHA and composite. Seems quite correct armor values to me.
Like the 10.3 abrams?
yes
So the 10.3 abrams would become frontally immune to 10.3 rounds past like 700m? Other than around the breach at least.
With a br increase, i wouldnt mind.
Not really. Russian 3BM42 and Obj292 will pass your tank like nothing. Also DM33 on the Ariete will pass, DM23 at 700 may not in the right cheek, but in the left one sure it will
Curiously, there’s two ‘‘Steel Beasts says the armour should be…’’ posts within an hour.
Anyways, I’ll copy/paste my reply from the other post:
Steel Beasts is not accurate, their estimations are just that: estimations.
They’re very old (perhaps around 20-25 years old by now?) and dated estimations with flawed reasoning behind the values presented.
It’s also not a valid source in the same way that War Thunder is not a valid source.
And here’s a qoute from the lead developer of Steel Beasts in relation to using classified information in the sim (such as accurate armour protection):
‘’[…] We try to not get into that sphere, because as soon as you have one piece of classified information in your code, the entire code gets classified and you can’t do anything with it any more.‘’
‘‘So no, we definitely do not wish our customer tell us their secrets’’
3BM42 has a max pen of 457mm so it will work at close range. Between 500-1000m, it drops from 445mm to 431mm.
It will might pen the turret cheeks assuming it hits at no angle. Hull would be immune seeing that the hull would be changed to have like 438-600mm+.
Unless you are talking about the current in-game armor.
I am assuming that this stuff got revealed recently so now people, who are googling abram’s armor, are finding it.
I’m talking about current in-game armor. Sadly we can’t do anything about it :(
These images have been available for what I feel like are decades.
Steel Beasts is old, very old.
Then yeah, 3BM42 will go through. I just play top tier like i am in a light tank.
I guess it could just be a situation where one person posts it then others see it and decide to make their own post
No, it’s not. The thing that is closest to accurate is the turret cheeks.
First of all, this is a ridiculous armor distribution, and the Americans are not that incompetent. There is a reason that the turret front is thicker towards the front than the hull is. Because you are much more likely to be hit in the turret than the hull. The best proxy there exist for the original M1 armor is the Super M60 or M60AX which was created in the late 70ties and unarmored to be similar to an M1 from the front that means the turret frontal protection is 400@30deg or 450mm at 0 degrees against KE while the hull is 370mm. In other words, right cheek has ~400mm protection, left cheek has ~360 at normal, CE protection from the front is ~820mm on the turret and ~640mm on the hull.
It would look something like this:
Where there is no Chobham or spaced armor then LOS is shown.
The issue with this game is they have U.S Armor wrong, the devs of warthunder are also anti american and biased as they have been for years, they are using sources that we already know aren’t true and for whatever reason gaijin doesn’t think Nato composites offer real protection. Anything found on the internet is iffy if not correct. the base M1A2 armor is completely wrong, the Seps aren’t even realistic and the M1 Abrams started getting D.U upgrades in 1998 as well as increased protection.
If that was remotely true, the USA wouldn’t have the best air tree, or a very good ground tree. It isn’t the end of the world that they aren’t the best at top tier.
They say this the second the US doesnt have absolute dominance in every area of the game.
what are you even talking about. you people literally have a missing that locks on and turns 60 degrees, for the last 8 updates until the f16/ f15 came out all your planes were better, hell half the russian planes flight models were broken to the point of fantasy, should i bring the MIG 19 Super cruise debacle back out?
The USA has the best aircraft throughout most of the game, and they have the best CAS in the entire game (throughout ALL BRs).
Ooo words to try to sound smarter ooo so scary
Debacle means great defeat or disaster. A glitch with the MiG-19 is neither ;)
