Yeah, and the annoying thing is. the C5 should have been that catch-up, but at the moment (as of the last dev server) just wasn’t. Which is where threads like this come from. Real shame. they missed an oppotunity.
Now I guess we’ll just need to wait for ASRAAM and co to close the gap.
To be fair the only jets that can abuse this are the rafale and m2k5f with the MICA (maybe su30 to some extent but not too close). But thats kinda the thing with war thunder at this point, cause even with all the BVR there are fights still happening within viusal range and once you step closer than 10km you know youre at a disadvantage against a MICA.
not really, even missiles like aam4 can hit shots near max gimble as close as 5-6km, where if you have aim 120 you would never be able to get your nose on, and then defend in the few seconds before their missile can hit
To be fair if I was to ever go against lets say a rafale with an F16 or 15 wouldn’t bother too much with missiles to begin with especially at closer ranges cause I know theyd be either notched or wouldnt pull in time. Id rather keep a more defensive posture and force a merge where youll probably have a higher chance of to kill him. Sometimes play mid jets on purpose and try to adapt the best i can.
Cause I know that being angry about something not being modeled right in game or underperforming isnt gonna solve anything unfortunately. We’ll just have to wait and hope for the best in the future.
your chances to kill them are a lot better if you force them to defend at close range where they will be unable to flare a follow up aim9m, so you need the missile performance to force them defensive early and keep them defensive, once it gets to a merge if they are at all competent you are screwed 100% of the time
Or that. See whatever you try the rafale can reliably counter it if played correctly. That I wont deny but I dont think a better AIM120 is gonna be fixing that imbalance. I think you have a better chance of getting something new that will outperform it than anythig.
A correctly implemented AIM-120C-5 would be enough to counter the Rafale(the F-15’s radar is still usable)

Now, what even are the good points of the c5 ? C7 on the slamraam lacks any features that makes it a c7 afaik even though it has a chance of coming on aircraft as seen in the unused aircraft loadouts.
What does the c5 has to offer ? If i resume what has been seen and said its :
-slower than the A
-has a longer range it will never reach
-less powerfull booster that burns for .7 seconds longer
-less hobs capability and g pull when it should have those
Did gajinn just voluntarily ruin the missile giving it the r77 treatment ? I dont see any reasons to use the c5 over the a/b now
Yeah, I think its just them paying lip service. They know MICA and R-77-1 are better than AIM-120B but they don’t want to actually give anyone anything better
But this is blatantly idiotic r77-1 was added due to lack of range of r77 now they add an upgraded amraam, strip all of its improvements and nerfs every improvement into what the aim9x is to the irst
Ive done test with the statshark website, aim120c5 and c7 are an exact copy paste in terms of flight caracteristic no change no deviation same route same time to target, aim120 c5/c7 main difference over the a is how fast it gets to 35g compared to the a im surprised this works. The c5/7 varient seems to be able to reach 35g in seconds and hold them for an extended period of time compared to the a
As for the long range. Aim120c5 loft is almost equal to a and hit a few seconds before, most of the time about 2-3 seconds wich wouldnt make a singular difference, gajinn made an arh missile into a dogfight missile
It isn’t even a dogfight missile. It’s hot garbage. Those are no HOBS capabilities. What’s with the seeker??? The C-5 has a far better seeker than the A and the C-7 has a better seeker than the C-5, yet the Mica is the only one with a diffrent seeker, porbably better too
Its not supposed to be, but remember if its good its gotta be nerfed, the seeker is the same on all varients while any other arh have a tighter filter and are harder to notch+chaff literraly becomes impossible at close ranges for anythint BUT amraams C5 and C7 are literraly just A but turns hard
I do find it quite funny that so many people were raving that the C-5 would be op and destroy top tier, only for it to arrive and be functionally a worse A/B.
