Is the 30mm minigun pod for F-5E and F-20 worth it?

So these planes let you wield a giant 30mm minigun at the fuselage, the GAU-13, the same minigun as A-10 but has less fire rate.

I’m just wondering the use case for both F-5E and F-20.

On the F-5E, it seems stupid because 11.0 is still a dogfight BR

On the F-20 I’m not too sure. I had good experience with 20mm minigun pods on the phantom planes like f 4ej kai.

It would be nice to get some input on whether the pod is worth it or not.

Its a meme weapon, it hurts your flight performance a lot

Yeah I assume it’s designed for CAS gameplay.

To me it seems like welding a 30mm minigun to it is just ticking the boxes for the export customers (these planes are designed as export)

First of all, IT IS NOT MINIGUN
It is a ROTARY CANNON.

If you really hate to call it a rotary cannon, how about calling it a Gatling gun instead???

Secondly, GAU-13/A ISN’T THE SAME CANNON WHICH A-10 HAS.
GAU-8 has 7 barrels while GAU-13 has 4.

Lastly,
Yes, GPU-5(GAU-13/A) Gunpod is a meme weapon; it thrills you just like how A-10A players shred enemy planes with their GAU-8/A, but it costs too many of your flight performances for that.
Especially when it is used on Light fighters as F-5 or F-20.

I call it a minigun for the comedy effects.

Anyway, thanks for the info about gau 13.

Perhaps I’ll give it a couple of tries with the gun pods myself, since dogfighting isn’t too competitive with IRCCM and gen 4 spam.

For example the flanker, a famous bus in the game, which the f 20 usually gets uptiered against, outmaneuvers it.

Ground targets may be a viable grinding method.
