Is Opentrack too OP?

ngl that looks a lot like it should be considered cheating. because that’s 3rd party software giving a MASSIVE potential advantage

This specific software is required to make my Tobii 5 work, and is endorsed by War thunder itself in some regard.

No, head tracking has been allowed for a while, It is really useful in air sim

yes but this isnt being used for air sim but as an exploit for ground realistic.

There is no rule saying it has to be used for air sim, only that the software is allowed for the whole of War Thunder

probably ought to have its limits, such an advantage in 3dr person is unfair to common players

Limits are physical exertion; same as using VR headset.
Physical movement to achieve the advantage

and the additional kit needed for head tracking such as a camera. instantly screws over console who has it bad enough and most of the playerbase who arent on the latest and greatest PCs

In this, it’s entirely on Gaijin and how those software can interact with ground…it might be a game limitations that they can’t separate ground and gamemodes like ASB.

I’d be personally disappointed if I want able to use open track in ASB anymore because it was being used as an exploit in GRB

With how disgustingly invasive anticheats are they absolutely can do this

Nah, it’s not even on anitcheat. It’s on how head tracking/camera controls can be used in GRB. They just need to add physical camera limits in GRB so that you cant move the camera position from a fixed point

Really?
You are physically getting up and running 10 meters to get that camera view?

I now have a mental image of someone sitting in a chair ontop of one of those VR treadmill things where you have to physically walk/run to move your character in game and essentially flintstoning to move your tank in War Thunder

Oh I had originally written that you have to climb down from atop a refrigerator first.

GRB VR/head track has been used for this and to poke only the head out at corners since… 2020? Could remember a vid from that age

The PS has also VR

WTF is opentrack? record a video i wana see it in action.

Not open-track, but close enough

One could reasonably argue for some better limitations on how far you can turn/lean. In SB, VR/headtracking can let you lean past the canopy in some planes significantly improving rearward visibility. However, that is a very niche side effect and usually you can kind of see it as a necessity for ASB.

You can look at his other videos to see live examples of how it looks.

Bottom-left corner has his facecam/feetcam/handcam.

I would barf in 3… 2…
lol

Funny enough, I started using OpenTrack together with PS3 Eye for head movement tracking. It was way cheaper than TrackIR.
I suppose you can achieve similar result on a console with console-specific tools (PS3 Eye is/was dedicated PS3 camera for bodytracking if I recall well).
Now I’m limited to OpenTrack as War Thunder doesn’t offer native support for Tobii as of now. And no, it doesn’t require super high end PC, neither it requires more than €20 to invest, basically all you need is trifork with IR diodes (can be diy, can be 3d printed) and something like used PS3 Eye with filter. OpenTrack is free. Can also be done with smartphone by the way, which I suppose everyone posses these times.
Some solutions do all computing on separate device, sending only output ready for the game, which requires only an additional usb port :p
