Is M60A1 (AOS) the best 8.3?

,

After the trash the first M60 is this is an amazing breath of fresh air, I have gotten many nukes with it. Has good mobility, armor, gun handling and armament. But despite this I see people saying it’s not that good? Like for me it feels overpowered. Or are the other 8.3’s just better? Is this a good candidate for best 8.3 in game?

I’d probably settle with underrated, T-55A, Type 74C, Type 69-IIa and Turm III all exist at 8.3.

Great to see, the M60 find some love :)

its an M60 but with a good hull.

its a glimpse of great for a BR similar to what germans and soviets enjoy across the whole game

Are you implying that US doesn’t get good vehicles? All my best vehicles apart from the T-34’s are american. I’m not saying that Germany and USSR don’t get good or even straight out better vehicles at many brs but it’s not that big a difference in most cases.
Unless you are talking about higher tiers (9.0 to 12.0) which I have no experience in.

I havent played many american vehicles as I don’t see any merit to most of the vehicles compared to the nations I already play and they are quite often free food when I face them in even the more mid vehicles.

just saying the Shermans and Pattons don’t really have much to say compared to a tiger or russian T34, good god germany and USSR are easy nations to play. I’m sure they are still great but not an attractive option to the other two main trees

i only have top tier britain so cant say anything for top tier America other than when I have them on my team I will lose. and I know its not the tank at fault

T-55A has a longer reload with a worse gun, worse turret traverse and worse depression and Turms is just so easy to kill with XM800T and really any rat vehicle. Type 69-IIa has laser rangefinder but lacks gun depression and still has a longer reload with a worse gun.

To say these vehicles are any reason that M60A1(AOS) is not on the table as best 8.3 doesn’t make much sense to me unless that wasn’t what you meant in which case I would apologize for my misunderstanding

It’s not the absolute best, but it’s one of the best, though the stuff better than it is usually stuff that has no right being as low as 8.3

I really cant play Germany; being so slow and clunky is really punishing and not fun. There are vehicles like the jagdpanther and JPZ 4-5 that are really fun but for the most part they are slow as hell and only fun in downtiers. American tanks being alot faster struggle alot less.
Soviet tanks are also fun but a close second to USA
Whether or not a vehicle is “free food” just depends on how many people play that vehicle and nothing else. (in my opinion, yours may differ)

U.S is a very consistent tree for Ranks I - V, the only terrible thing I can say is having to grind APHE for most of the WWII tanks.

It’s fine, I wouldn’t consider the M60 AOS overpowered when there are solid competitors at the same BR. I’d still say the Turm III is the best (read: overpowered and should be 8.7) 8.3, 5 second autoloader, very fast, responsive turret drives and a coxial 30mm for swatting said rat vehicles.

yeah well it’s a stinky premium (Turms)

I’d say the best 8.3 is probably one of the 35mm SPAA’s or XM800T. As for mediums i’d say the Object 140 takes it because of that fantastic APHE shell. Yeah it does lack depression, but its my candidate for the best 8.3 MBT in terms of personal preference.

I’m setting aside the Turm III because that should be 8.7.

Its great.

Im more of a RISE (P) enjoyer as i think it fixes like 90% of AOS problems but AOS is what i use for backup and i love it.

I’m casting my vote for the ztz59d1. Excellent tank.

I just got the RISE (P) and was wondering is the better gun and era worth it for the loss in mobility and higher BR?

its disgusting OP - facing them in a maus or is 4 / 6 is a nightmare.
not to mention their OP and severely undertiered ligth tanks and CAS aircrafts.

i actually have warthunder wiki article in the works on RISE (P) but to give you a rundown as to why i personally think its great 8.7 tank:

in firepower department, you get access to rangefinder and shell with quite good sloped penetration values, with only DM23 and its equivalents and OFL 105 F1 offering better angled pen. its aced reload speed is also the fastest 105mm reload time for its BR (excluding autoloaders; also note that many 8.7 share this reload time). M735 is also sufficient to cut through weakspots when facing full uptiers.

in protection department, it gets access to smoke grenade launchers and ESS when compared to AOS, which massively improve its survivability. its armor is deceptively strong for its BR offering combination of high sloping and ERA. ERA especially is a gamechanger, because unlike T-72s with ERA, chemical munitions are much more common at 8.7 BR, and especially in downtier. DF105, Raketenautomat, most HEAT shells, Swingfire, Konkurs, TOWs, AS-11, MILAN etc. yes, the protection has its weaknesses, such as turret ammorack, turret ring, commander cupola etc. Its armor isnt as good when facing uptiers, but that is not issue unique to the RISE (P)

in mobility department is the only area where RISE (P) presents a downgrade when compared to AOS, as the same engine now has to deal with additional weight of ERA package. Mobility is still workable for such armored tank tho.

the absolutely worst you can meet in uptier are T-64BV and maybe something like Shir, but the M735 is still good enough to take them out with some proper aiming. only real issue is presented by object 279 but all 8.7 struggle against that PoS.

In downtiers, its slaughter, provided you dont overextend.

There are things much worse than the M60 AOS the Maus could face, the Chinese ZTZ59D1 and Olifant mk1 both having DM23 which is normally a weapon used by 8.7s, and that is only 8.3 and not seeing 8.7 yet.

Also there is one Magach only 8.0 already use DM23

I agree with him. After grinding britain america is definetly mid.
