I wanna start grinding the Japanese tech tree can anyone tell me if its worth the grind, thanks.
Someone who’s been playing since the 2017 Spring.
You will learn it very easily, but mastering it, good luck with that.
The benefit is, once you master Japanese aircraft, when you play other nations, you tend to wonder why people complain that they suck(their nation).
I find Japans props fairly average to play, they will curb stomp anybody silly enough to turn fight them (which happens far more than it should), but are so slow people can just fly away, wait until you try to do something else and then try to 3rd party you, if you turn back towards them they just fly off again as you have zero (no pun intended) ability to force a fight.
Their 13.7 jets are fine, but nothing you wont find else where and they lack anything that can really compete with the 14.3s.
So unless there is a specific plane you want to fly like the F-1 or F-2 you are probably better grinding pretty much any other tree
Not just turnfighting.
If you use Army Aircraft (Ki(Kee) they are more capable of Bnz and energy fighting.
At WW2 piston-engine BRs japan has great planes, if a little slow and vulnerable to disciplined americans who refuse to get slow. You’re gonna need good aim to swat mustangs and corsairs who refuse to get slow. Variety is also pretty nice: You got the carrier-borne super-agile aircraft, army aircraft that are a more balanced but still agile-first approach, things like the J2M2 which is veritably fast for its BR (at least in sim where it’s 3.7). Tada’s Ki-61 is an excellent premium for consistent cash with decent-ish bombs for guaranteeing at least ~53% reward in sim by going for a ground battle before moving in to dogfight.
Ki-84 in sim is a very powerful, easy to use plane.
Most Japanese aircraft are very friendly to handle in sim and won’t try to kill you for abusing them, unlike other tech trees. They aren’t very prone to accelerated stalls.
In RB they’re a little overtiered due to player performance.
Above WW2 I can’t comment.
I definitely recommend getting all of the WW2 iconic japanese aircraft though if you like WW2 props even if you won’t declare yourself a japan-main. Worst case, you’ll learn what kind of match-ups/situations absolutely suck in a japanese prop, giving you more consistent ways to counter them (like “I cant catch P51Cs and F4U-4s to save my life.”)
The problem I have in ARB is that by the time I get to battle in the slow Japanese planes, the reckless and dumb players have removed themselves from the match.
