Is it possible using a Gamepad in Air Simulator

I was considering acquiring a Gamepad and probably test it on Air Simulator Battles, does anyone use a Gamepad for it and recommend it?

Also, if so, I would need to use the keyboard for the extra functions like turning on the engine and secondary things I don’t need to constantly operate during the whole game.

Well, my stepson flew Sim EC for a while on PS4 with gamepads, and managed quite ok.

You can certainly do so if you set up your controller properly, but then if you have the possibility to use a joystick etc., I’d rather recommend that…

Why use a disadvantageous system if an advantageous system is easily available?

I’ve used it and I don’t recommend it.

You are much better off using a joystick or even just your keyboard and mouse

I recommend using it. With the right controls-setup it’s very effective, having 2 joysticks on the controller and analogue triggers is quite nice. I have a controls guide if you’re interested, more suited towards jets though

I’d be thankful if you share your guide.

Hello, if you join Nimbal’s discord server, (sim YouTuber) my guide is in there along with a few others. Can’t send it here

Currently, they still haven’t fixed hotas for consoles they labeled my bug report for it as info requested I added more info, and they haven’t looked back at it yet (that was like a month or two ago)

Well, in general the whole controls architecture or philosophy in WT is in my personal view one of the most lacking areas of the game.

For example, if you have more than one controllers of the same type, it’s impossible to configure controls assigned to those controllers persistently:

I have a homecockpit originally built with working side consoles patterned after the F/A-18, using a total of 4 USB controler interfaces by Leo Bodnar, with iirc 32 analog inputs each.
For WT I had now to disconnect three of those controllers, rewire part of my buttons and switches to that one controller, and obviosuly had to reduce the connected switches and buttons significantly (32 inputs now remaining of originally 128…).
Ironic: You could easily assign your functions to all those four controllers, and it would work, but even if you save control setup, and restart the client, it would only recognize the inputs of one of the four interfaces, the other would have to be reassigned each time you start WT…

I meant basic hotas controls get screwed with if you try to reload them, meaning you have to redo your controls every time you want to use it EX: reload controls = Y now shoots the guns and the Y buttons on the throttle

Yes, that’s certainly also part of the whole issue / situation / state of controls in WT, I assume.

Also on PC, some buttons e.g. on joysticks are recognized as gamepad controls (judging from the symbol that is indicated in controls), other buttons on the same controller are then however named “controller x - button y” or something.
