Is it normal that the AIM120D dont relock on target (even with hardlock) after 1 Chaff?

If it was close range (enough so that the missiles own radar gets used), the target was above you, and was in a perfect notch then I find it believable and possible. Otherwise not so much if at all.
Two-way data link is not implemented, every missile does this if they go into track mode and bite chaff.
