I always only ever read 40 km as “effective range” and never as “max range”. Even the mail from Diehl states 40 km “effective range”.
There was one graph from the Bundeswehr here somewhere that stated 50 km (which I would see as maximum range), so 40 km effective range would make sense. Cannot seem to find it anymore but it was also posted in this thread if my memory serves me right.
In this case I was reffering to text based sources where every source states “effective range 40 km”.
I didn’t find any which states “max range 40 km” and the manufacturer also states 40 km as “effective range”.
They stated operational range as 40km which would have suggested this is the maximum range it is capable of operating in rather than reaching, but that could also be subject to certain things like battery and radar. Also that is of the system so the limit could be something other than missile.
must be lie, the iris T have issue tracking that far except it use IR TRK and tbh more than 20km the missile already so slow (to point it can’t engage target that have doin simple maneuver), so you must be have skill issue and not maneuvering enough. Bad day for you…
The 60km is the distance from the control unit/radar. So you can have one launcher 20km west of the radar and another launcher 20km east of the radar (+ 20km north/south) Giving a total of 60km coverage. The actual missiles range is still cited as 40km.
The question remains why I’m driving these busses on frontline maps, where I constantly get overrun by T-80ties and other MBTs :) 20 km control range between the complex’ systems.
