yeah idk what thats about tbh.
like whats the point of integrating iris-t (and having to buy new ones for that because the remaining 150 that the air force had were retired with the f-16s and given to ukraine) but then later switching to a different missile which is not even partially produced locally
Too bad its sweden thatll get it…
eh, might be a ito 90M moment at the start where both germany and sweden get it
nah german will just get the boxer iris-t sls
but thats years away, i would prefer this as a in between with getting replaced in the future
I highly doubt that IRIS-T SLS will be added before 2026, which is when the boxer IRIS-T SLS prototype is planned to be produced.
MBDA and Kongsberg withdrew from BODLUV 2020 leaving only Diehl to provide a short-medium range air defence system
Gonna be just SLM or a mix of SLS and SLM
or who knows maybe they invest in SLX
the boxer SLS bugs me design-wise.
I am not a fan of these multi vehicle AA setups NATO is adamant in using, and I dont understand why they dont look at nations that have actually been making SHORAD’s this whole time and iterate off that.
4-6 IRIS-T’s ready to fire and no gun is dubious imo, and the answer of “its supposed to work in tandem with a skyranger 30!” seems odd as well. If its going to work with a skyranger, just use something like a salvo system or VLS cells, but more-so than that, an AIO system with a gun and missiles would be preferable imo. Not because I dont think specialist vehicles should exist, but because in SHORAD, its kind of important to have options at the ready that dont require you to always have perfect battlefield clarity and perfect positioning.
One thing i do like is the use of multiple AESA radars for maximal coverage though.
its not done yet…
and layered air defence exists for a reason but i would expect it to receive some form of a cannon
Norway is funding some 60% or so of an SLM battery for Ukraine (aka re-paying Germany) with 1bln NOK putting the price at around 140mln euros for the whole battery
Bulgaria is joining the club
AIM-9X has yet to be integrated. IRIS-T is the currently supported missile.
the plan is to integrate AIM-9X later as IRIS-T SLS production currently is primarily focused on supplying Ukraine.
Supported missile for what? NOMADS literally only advertises 9XB2, doesnt mention IRIS-T anywhere
all tests firings were only done yet with the IRIS-T, no official reports of the 9x yet
did you watch the video at all?
tbh not all of it but why is there advertising only 9XB2?
Norway is no longer use F-16, and only use F-35A.
so they replace IRIS-T to AIM-9X because effeciency of supply.
definitely is IRIS-T tho
because they’re not going to sell it with IRIS-T.
i’m assuming that they chose IRIS-T for testing because its easier for them to get permission for that from the manufacturer.
