Iris-slm too broken?

With the Iris-t-slm being rumored to be added for Germany, will it be balanced?

I mean like we already know the pansir is arguably the best air defense in the game, with its 20km range being a solid option to reach far away targets. But the iris-t-slm(SLM not slr) has a range of nearly 40km!

Although I believe strongly in the addition of new top tier SPAA’S to help fix the cas problem, won’t this recreate the problem we had with the pansir when it first released? Like 40km is a verrry long range, and it outranges all top tier SPAA’S by nearly double the range, not to include the iris-t-slm’s missile being highly maneuverable and almost impossible to dodge.

Yes 40km is its max range but it’s effective range will be much lower, especially since missiles in war thunder tend to wiggle a lot and loose their speed extremely fast. To add to that these missiles won’t be player controlled meaning that just like in top tier air, you can force these missiles pretty easily to crash themselves into obstacles.

Overall I am all for these missiles. Spawning a plane should not allow you to get a 5+ killstreak just because.

even then the missile can cover around 30km ish effectively, not to mention its fire and forget, and has thrust vectoring

30 km with thrust vectoring irl will turn into 15-20 km in game (if the current TVC model is not modified obviously)

Just wounder how this could be ever ingame. I can’t really believe it. Imagine you’re playing on a map like factory…how could you ever deploy this system there?

M has 40km engagement range. 40 km are 40 km^^^

That uh, that ain’t how it works.

The game models TVC terribly. The missile will have it’s effective range reduced incredibly on account of it.

Even the official Bundeswehr homepage clearly states: Effective longitudinal range 40km. Means its not a theoretical range, but the range you can fight targets under any condition. Just look at the missile, its really a big one. If this results in just 15km, it would be the worst missile of all times.

I get you’re not the sharpest from my interactions with you but the GAME does not care what range it is IRL, it will be limited on account of TVC.

And the Mica 80km are 80km, but due to TVC it can’t go further than 50

Even if by some miracle the missile is able to reach out that far, unlike the SLS the SLM is radar guided. Meaning if Gaijin changes nothing about how ARH work it will be as easy to notch and chaff as any other ARH missile in-game right now.

Edit: scratch that part about it only being ARH. Thought they outright replaced the IIR seeker with a radar one. You learn sth every day

The funniest part will be the missile’s inability to hit a target within 5 km because theTVC will just make the missile spin, the missile will only be usable between 5 and 20 km.

Its Ground RB man, no one is notching and chaffing there, lol. Play the game first. All you need is the neccessary range and the Suchoi drones (players act like one 99%) will fall out of the sky en masse.

Suspect this might be more an indictment of yourself than others. Plenty of folk use chaff and notch.

Clearly not. They spawn and switch to their target pod to spot ground targets and to lob missiles. Almost no one does these thing you’re talking about. Same with heli players, they just hug in gunners view and can be lol farmed in most caes… Every GRB player knows this. Its not Air RB.

Just a reminder the Iris-T SLM has a dual head it gets close with Radar, pops the tip off and the IIR seeker takes over

No. Why would they name it IRIS-T (!) then? You should better look into this.

I’m a wehraboo. We don’t have jets with F&F missiles like the Rus do. So I sadly can’t play GRB like this. Spacebaring tanks with IR target pods and KH-38 is fotm. I wish I could.
