While flying the Su-39, I noticed that when locking an aerial target with the radar, the Shkval sight also automatically starts tracking the same target. This makes it quite convenient to use Vikhr missiles in simulator battles. I assumed this kind of integration would also work on the Tornado GR.4 with Brimstones, but its radar and optical targeting system seem to be unlinked.
Among the aircraft available to me, this feature works on the Su-39, Su-34, and Mirage 2000 RMV, but not on the Mirage 4000, Tornado, or F-2A. I’d like to understand why this functionality is present on some aircraft but not others. What criteria do the developers follow when implementing such radar-to-optical system integration?

on more serious note no one knows. AFAIK Hornets should be able to slave their FLIR to radar too to work as IRST for air targets, but are unable to do so in game.

Maybe @Smin1080p_WT could shed some light on this.
UPD: I tested this on the Eurofighter as well — its PIRATE system also doesn’t show me the aerial target after lock-on, even if I set IRST as the lead sensor. Now this is really confusing.
I don’t know about other aircrafts, but with F-2A:
[First] lock Radar on target;
[Then] deactivate target point.
Problem solved.

Which tpods cue to radar lock is entirely at Gaijins discretion annoyingly. For example. The Typhoon, on the latest dev server with its GMTI, didnt cue the Litening III pod onto a target, now we never saw what it was like on live because the CAPTOR-M is so buggy, GMTI broke it. But I wouldnt be surprised if it didnt have that functionality. Even though it would have benefitted from it more than most.
The Tornado Gr4 would be really dependent on actually getting its full radar modeled, which they dont seem interested in doing. I did ask gunjob last dev server cycle if he could ask for them to unlock the naval search radar for all Tornado IDSs and have it cue tpods/AGMs to the lock for a Psuedo ASM via the PGMs. But hes going to nudge it next major
Yeah, that is a reported issue as well, but they dont seem interested in fixing it
I tested it — it does work on the F-2A, but it’s still useless on the Typhoon and Tornado.
But the Rafale has no issues with this. And they were all added in the same patch. It’s just madness.
I wish you could toggle it… via hotkey
