Flying over an objective and having AI infantry parachute out of the aircraft would be great. Could re-use the C-47 model already in the files along with adding other utility aircraft like the Ju-52, C-130, A400M, IL-76 and the likes.
It wouldn’t be practical unless we had a rework of the current gamemodes or adding new modes where objectives like that would be possible to actually complete, like DCS inspired PvE mode for air battles would be a good fit for stuff like this.
Sooo, 1 hour ago IGN re-posted the april 1 teaser (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8rGHmevrZ4), makes me think that we will actually get to have playable infantry in war thunder, or atleast closed beta tests for it. What are your guys thoughts?
I don’t believe infantry would be playable, it’d change too much. I think in the trailer they show it from the soldier’s POV because the models are so detailed you can kind of just do that and make it feel as if it was a FPS, at least that’s my take.
We’re going to get even more tech trees whilst still having the same RP economy as we did 10 years ago with less than half the nations, half the tree size, no naval and no helicopters?
If it would be true, we would have DCS type of optimalization (non existant), but the POV could have just been shown for hype
it doesnt need to go to GRB, it can come as a new gamemode, but hoping for a new gamemode in this game is like hoping for something almost impossible.
enlisted exists yes, but enlisted isnt fitted for modern combat, doesnt have modern stuff modelled, if you would want to have all the planes, tanks, and infantry modelled, to the war thunder accuracy, or even close, it would take years, all the radars, a2g weapons. whereas if you would want to create modern playable infantry in war thunder, you would just need to develop better maps (thus GRB cannot be used as its not fitted for infantry at all) and well, infantry, something that we “had” in the 2024(?) of april
I honestly believe they’re on the prototype phase of testing infantry (as AI NPC units), WW1 was a fairly easy way to test basic functionally. Infantry could be integrated into GRB or be part of a new game mode.
That’s just speculation on my part though, I’d much rather see fixes to the main game before infantry or other mechanics are introduced.
But I’m all in for a new game mode revolving around infantry.
Honestly I think they plan on making infantry playable. The trailer had a very large emphasis on FPS perspectives and a considerable amount of infantry vs infantry combat. I’m not sure they would make such efforts to show such things, only for all that action to just be AI vs AI. We’ve also seen in the WWI event just how underwhelming AI infantry actually is, with a minimal impact on gameplay, akin to the static AI emplacements in Air RB like Howitzers or AAA. I genuinely doubt they would make such an advanced teaser just for a mechanic similar to that.
All that and just the way they announced it makes me believe its going to be playable, as they compare it to Ground, Naval and Air vehicles and gameplay.
“It’s time to see war from a completely new perspective. You’re already familiar with the devastating power of machines — on land, in the sky, and at sea.”
Ah, yes. Add more content instead of actually fixing the base game including the oodles of spaghetti code that still causes issues to this day because fixing the game properly is too much hassle.
