Especially if we get the programmable HEAT shells. However they would be getting javelins, molotovs, IED packs and RPGs. A single soldier can knock out a tank incredibly easily in enlisted (I don’t fear tanks at all playing that game) so us tankers will have to be a lot more wary in urban areas

i hope we get technicals. like what if we get an engineer class that can place AT, AA, or stationary weapons on stuff. Imagine a Toyota Hilux with a 125mm 2A46

Or you being a bradley/bmp/warrior with your mate that’s got a grenadier squad in the back to control a town centre.

I do wanna see a hilux with a machine gun on it. we kinda have that with the ystervark and bosvark and they are pretty decent to play.

I think it’s almost certainly just an April Fool’s gag. I know they sometimes sort of shadow beta test new features, but it isn’t like there’s any indication of submarines coming. Sometimes it is just a gag. You always know it’s April Fool’s when they actually talk about something new or fun or a new game mode.

All that said, I actually would love this, so long as infantry was AI. I don’t want it to become infantry focused for players, as that’s what Enlisted (which also has its charms) is for. I think it shouldn’t even just be pure infantry, things like field guns we’ve seen in World War maps would be cool too, and logistics and transport AI vehicles too like cargo ships in naval. We’d need appropriate infantry and support weapons by BR though.

I still miss the days when Air RB, or Historical Battles as it was then, were longer and were actually operations where you were supporting an overall battle. There were issues of course, but I think ditching it to cater to fighter-exclusive players who wanted quick, arcade team deathmatch without admitting they play arcade was beyond throwing out the baby with the bath water. I wish they’d built upon it, and then the pieces would have been there to have that in GRB too. There’s be objectives like taking out artillery batteries (that could even influence the ability or performance of artillery strikes) or supporting/stopping an offensive. Not just IFVs, but tanks were often designed to attack infantry and fortified installations more than other armor. You’d have a reason to carry some HE, or even shrapnel rounds. This lets these vehicles actually fulfill more of the job they were built for.

You’d still need to outplay other players who would be the tanks on the map, but keeping people invested in a game like this instead of maximizing churn means making sure all levels of player can feel like they had fun. Note I’m not saying get carried. Even good players (and I’m under no pretense I am one) know how frustrating even a very short streak of being killed by a guy you didn’t see without accomplishing anything and going back to hangar can be. Lots of games have ways to keep them engaged without it meaning skill doesn’t pay off to win matches. It’s not like random lobbies need to have e-sports rules.

I don’t think this is coming at all, and I definitely can’t see them going through the effort to actually ever improve a game mode again, but honestly it would be a shot in the arm for the game. Imagine if all those new players during pandemic lockdowns had an experience that encouraged player retention instead of giving them reason if they didn’t drop the game outright to join in the throngs demanding Gaijin do better. I know they can if they want to. I’d love the idea of them actually having a revolutionary update to not be a joke.

Nah

He doesn’t know

He really doesn’t know… wow.

I sincerely hope the infantry is not playable

what about a TANK FOCUSED infantry game, where tanks are the main point

Maybe, most likely, I mean, we still dont have some other april fools events (Some for obvious reasons, gaijin, I’d love an always available Mad Thunder mode!) submarines, which will cause some issues with current gameplay and vessels. There are also a lot of unrealistic things, Like flying ponies with guns, pirate ships, and exoskeletal infantry. I’d personally love to see infantry for obvious reasons, but there could also be more roles for helicopters, especially of the utility class, like the Mi-8 and Mi-24 Hinds, as well has the UH-60 battlehawks.

Seeing as this could be an april fools, take it with a grain of salt, but they seem pretty serious about it.

Funnily enough, like the title instates, The next big thing for war thunder, and honestly, I have always believed it will have been, and this is just a primary source to say I was right, lol.

When are you going to redo the engine, replace the old textures, and optimize the code? Currently, War Thunder shouldn’t keep increasing revenue by constantly cutting player benefits and selling gift packs. It needs to provide a better gaming experience.

Flying over an objective and having AI infantry parachute out of the aircraft would be great. Could re-use the C-47 model already in the files along with adding other utility aircraft like the Ju-52, C-130, A400M, IL-76 and the likes.

It wouldn’t be practical unless we had a rework of the current gamemodes or adding new modes where objectives like that would be possible to actually complete, like DCS inspired PvE mode for air battles would be a good fit for stuff like this.

Sooo, 1 hour ago IGN re-posted the april 1 teaser (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8rGHmevrZ4), makes me think that we will actually get to have playable infantry in war thunder, or atleast closed beta tests for it. What are your guys thoughts?

I was thinking more in line with squad and arma tbh

I don’t believe infantry would be playable, it’d change too much. I think in the trailer they show it from the soldier’s POV because the models are so detailed you can kind of just do that and make it feel as if it was a FPS, at least that’s my take.

I don’t think it’s a good idea. GRB has it’s own issues, and infantry won’t solve them.

Also, enlisted literally exists and is more setup for infantry.
