Indirect Fire for Self-Propelled Artillery

In War Thunder, self-propelled artillery can only engage targets through direct fire. In reality, artillery often relies on drones, forward observers, or coordinates shared over radio and data links to strike targets beyond visual range.

World of Tanks has had this feature for years, using a bird’s-eye artillery view.

I think War Thunder could implement a more realistic system. Teammates could use drones, radio communication, or data links between vehicles to mark target coordinates on the minimap. Self-propelled artillery could then fire at those coordinates from long distances without needing direct line of sight.

This would make battles more realistic and interesting.

And those players who spend the entire match sitting motionless in bushes playing hide-and-seek? They might finally have to worry about artillery shells raining down on them from miles away.

most warthunder maps are smaller than the minimum indirect firing range for the spgs in warthunder

Fair point, but not all SPGs have the same minimum indirect fire range. This feature could work for some vehicles, especially on larger maps.

The very specific large maps like Pradesh that to actually have a decent firing point you have to get inside the direct firing range? Indirect firing in War Thunder is only exclusive to a few weapons like the 100 mm 2A70 cannon because of the low pressure applied to the 3OF70 high-explosive projectile; that’s it not intentional but a collateral condition that allows the vehicle to indirect engage targets.
