I’d like to strongly advocate for the inclusion of India as an independent tech tree (or as a major subtree) in War Thunder, given its substantial historical, operational, and technological contributions from WWII to the present day.
1. World War II Participation
India (then under British rule) fielded over 2.5 million personnel, forming the largest volunteer force in WWII.
Indian Air Force squadrons flew Spitfires, Hurricanes, and Vengeances in active combat roles.
Ground forces operated Shermans, Valentines, Grants, and Lee tanks, often in unique configurations or under Indian command.
This legacy alone is on par with nations already represented in-game.
2. Post-Independence Arsenal & Modifications
India developed a uniquely diverse and modified inventory, blending British, Soviet, French, and indigenous platforms:
Aircraft: Gnats, Hunters, MiG-21s, Mirage 2000s, HAL Tejas, Harriers, and Canberras
Helicopters: HAL Dhruv, HAL Rudra, and the LCH Prachand
Many of these systems were modified or manufactured in India, making them distinct from their imported counterparts.
3. Comparable Precedent: Israel
Israel was added with a relatively small number of indigenous vehicles, relying heavily on modified imports.
India, similarly, used imports but applied unique adaptations, doctrines, and eventually produced its own equipment — offering both gameplay variety and historical depth.
4. Viability of a Full or Sub-Tree
A full tech tree could span:
WWII-era British vehicles in Indian service
Cold War imports and adaptations
Modern indigenous developments (Arjun, Tejas, Prachand, etc.)
Alternatively, More Indian Vehicles could be added as a subtree to the British (or even Soviet) tree, allowing for gradual integration.
Final Thoughts
India’s absence as a separate nation in War Thunder is increasingly difficult to justify, especially given its deep military history, extensive combat record, and growing domestic defense industry.
I hope the developers will seriously consider this request — I and many others in the community would welcome it enthusiastically.
A tech tree composed of British and Soviet rebranded ground vehicles and air vehicles, welcome back Israel. Better as part of Great Britain even though it’s a sub-tech tree it needs more vehicles.
Yes Yes but I saw the tank vijayanta being reomoved or atleast i couldn’t find it , and currently there is about 3 vehicles with Indian flag Itself and 1-2 with British Indian Flag
and my emphasize was on it being a sub tree of soviet rather than UK
Hmm but it would actually make sense for it to be part of USSR sub tree or even a Mix with Israel since India has close ties with those nations , I would say it would be better for it to be in Israel since Israel it self is just a minor nation with comparatively less number of vehicles
I think most sub-tech trees are added with logic in consideration, based on alliances ties or historical relations, what one has to do with the other, and also, mixed tech tree? In my opinion this is a non working concept.
Despite a lot of people not liking the idea of sub-tech tree for USSR, which I can’t imagine why, Czech has another vehicle inside the USSR tech tree with the L-39ZA Albatros, is the third if I’m not wrong.
The chances of this being reality is even higher now unless Gaijin actually makes a Eastern Europe tech tree with Poland, Ukraine and everyone else that may be missing and isn’t represented in-game which I doubt frankly.
You already said the reason why it is a subtree already. Don’t try to use Israel as a precedent because implementation of Israel tree are also a mistake
I don’t think Israel tanks like the mekravas which were in US TT was as popular as the Indian T80 bhishma, I over a period of 2 months saw a lot of the T80 bhishma and jaguar (Indian) combo a lot , so I feel that lot of players have actually liked the introduction of those 2
And another reason for using israel was due to the false info I got from some players who said India doesn’t have a lot of vehicles other than the new ones that can be added to rank 6-8
But actually India has Atleast as many vehicles as Israel in reality it have atleast 2x the amount of vehicles in Israel ,even starting from rank 1
