Independent South African Tech Tree & Jordanian Sub-Tree

+1

ZA should have been its own tree.

While I do think this is a very good tree, the fact both countries are already in the UK tree, means it’s not really a feasible choice now. So, +1 but I do think if Gaijin just expands the GB tree to include a few more branches that might work out better. It would certainly mean top-tier isn’t limited to only 2 12.0 MBTs, both of which are effectively copy-paste vehicles (with some minor changes) and not domestic ZA/JO designs.

Edit for some comments:

Wrong image, just fyi.

Have you thought about adding the TTD with the 120mm GT-6? The cannon was built and tested separately, never mounted. If there were genuine plans to mount it in the TTD other than just “yeah we want to” (i.e. blueprints, etc.) then it fits the definition of unfinished prototype and would be suitable.

There was also a 120mm low-recoil gun (GT-12) built and tested, and intended for the Rooikat, although I don’t know if this refers to the MTTD turret or something else.

Appreciate it, should be fixed now. Somehow the Jordanian Centurion had snuck in there.

So far only I’ve only included vehicles that were completed (fully functioning) in the tech tree. In my opinion it gives more credibility to the tree than including unfinished what ifs/mock-ups.

And as far as I’m aware, there are no known finalised drawings for the 120mm in the TTD turret.

Jordan is not a sub nation of Britain. A single Jordanian tank that is modified from a British one is in the British tree. That is all.

Fair enough.

What about the following additions:

  • Rooikat Predator

    • Surprised you don’t already have this as it’s a Jordanian/South African co-development. Also noticed you don’t have the Ratel ZT3A2?
  • Rooikat ICV

    • Rooikat with Ratel 20 turret, basically
  • Ratel 35

  • Ratel with LCT35 turret

  • T-55LD
    4snf0idqwki41

  • Rhodesian Polish-built T-55. Would work best as a premium imo. Not South African but given the very close relations between the two countries, plus the fact these T-55s were intercepted by ZA on their way to Angola, and given to Rhodesia, it makes sense

  • Rooikat CVED

  • Rooikat with electric-drive, allows it to neutral steer. Good premium/event counterpart to the regular Mk. 1D

A massive +1 from me, we can get a proper South African vehicles with Jordanian representation while freeing up space for the UK TT to either have a subtree of a nation that the UK has closer/more consistent ties with (Australia &/or Canada) or ideally a dedicated UK LT line

That being said there are a couple of mistakes and omissions of vehicles

Mistakes/Errors

  • Mbombe 8x8 57: The image you shown is of a Barys 8x8 which is a Joint South African-Kazakh venture with the 57mm as one of the turret options it can use. The Jordanians are also planned to not only purchase Mbombe’s but also build their own under license

The Barys like with the Mbombe is based off also has a 6x6 variant

  • Tariq II: Technically correct however a better name for it would be Tariq II Falcon or just Tariq Falcon for clarification

  • TTD: Again technically correct however it also be called either the TTD 105, Loggim 105 or Loggim Prototype since the production model is supposed to have a 120mm cannon developed by Lyttleton Engineering Works however the gun was never mounted on the TTD due to the Loggim being canned. As a side note, the Rooikat MTTD is also going to receive the LEW 120 as well if it was accepted into production

Spoiler

if you guys are wondering, yes, prototypes of the LEW 120 was built and even had some live fire tests done on it

120mm-640x334

Missing vehicles

  • Temsah APC: Not to be confused with the family of Egyptian wheeled APC’s/MRAP’s that shares the same name, essentially it’s a APC that shares the same chassis as the Al-Hussein, can either mounted a RCWS consisting of a GIAT 20mm autocannon or the Predator Turret

  • Ratel 23-2 Jordanian Ratel that uses the same turret that the BTR-94 utilizes. Jordan also briefly operated BTR-94’s before gifting them to Iraq

RATEL-902-9637497

  • Various Unimogs: South Africa and in extension used a lot of Unimogs during the Bush and Border war mounted with various weapons including KPV-T HMG’s, 20mm Oerlikon Cannon and recoilless rifles including the M40A1 and various captured Soviet recoilless rifles

  • Casspir K Car: First successful South African MRAP that is highly modular. The one specific variant i advocate for is the K Car with the M40A1 recoilless rifle. One other thing the K Car can have a 20mm autocannon as a secondary armament

  • And so many more

That is not including adding vehicles that Namibia, South Rhodesia/Rhodesia Zimbabwe and Botswana operates which can very easily added to the TT either as premiums or filler vehicles

You mean Rooikat Diddy

Both sould stay as a subtree in UK. On their own, these countries are not interesting enough. Even now It’s rare to see anyone playing rooikats, olifant or TTD. They are good filler to UK and that’s it

How i would edit it:
South africa + african nations like ethiopia, nigeria etc(african tt)
Jordan+iran+saudi and arabian nations etc(arab world TT)

Jordan is not a sub nation.

Thanks for the vehicles!

Do you have any information on the Rooikat Predator turret not being a mockup? So far the sources I have read have been very mixed on it.

Ah, seems not, sadly.

“While the turret has been installed on the Lynx [Rooikat] and the Alligator [Temsah], it has not yet been fully integrated and is not ready for full weapon system testing.”

Appreciate it!

The Temsah APC especially is very iffy about whether or not it is functional. It’s based on a very heavily modified Centurion chassis that has been flipped backwards (you can see the engine deck and drive wheel are at the front of the Temsah), so it will need to have been completely refitted with a new engine and transmission etc to even have basic mobility, none of which is documented, and I don’t think its ever been demoed non-statically, which is not a good sign.

As well as this, one of the turret options for it (the Predator) is most likely a mock-up, but I believe the Swarm turret was functional.

What I think is a Saudi VBL Panhard with Ingwe ATGMs. Not sure who made the turret, if it was a ZA venture then it could fit in the tree.

Thanks! There’s actually a similar South African 4x4 - the Reva - which was fitted with the same turret, which will be in the tree when I finalise the first update
