History

809 Naval Air Squadron was formed in 1941 at RNAS St Merryn, in Cornwall. They flew the Fairey Fulmar from 1941 to 1943 when it was replace in the squadrons service by the Seafire series for the rest of the war.

The Squadron has been disbanded and reformed on multiple occasions, notably in the Falklands war, where upon returning home they were disbanded again without even a year of full operations. More recently the squadron was recommissioned at RAF Marham on Friday 8th December 2023 as the Royal Navy’s only F-35B squadron currently.

The Decal

The decal this suggestion is proposing is 809’s squadron badge which can be seen above, many variations of the phoenix have been present on the squadron’s aircraft over the years, most recently seen on an F-35B present at its recommissioning ceremony.
