Description: The IMAM Ro58 was an Italian all-metal heavy fighter developed by the Italian company IMAM in the Second World War. It was made following the same concept as the German BF110, a two-engine heavy fighter with most of the weapons in the nose of the aircraft. The project started in 1939 when the Regia Aereonautica asked the Italian industries for a new heavy fighter. The IMAM selected three of its engineers to develop the new fighter. The three engineers put together all their efforts to develop the new fighter following the requirements emitted by the Regia Aereonautica, and by 1942, the first aircraft was finally ready for the first flight. It took a lot of time to develop and make it, but the result was excellent. The Ro58 design was based on the previous Ro57 with a new cockpit and a larger number of weapons, with a total of 5x 20 mm cannons on the front and a rear 12.7 mm. It was also fitted with the new FIAT R.A.1050 R.C.58 Tifone (an Italian version of the DB605) that gave the aircraft additional speed and power. The Regia Aereonautica did indeed show interest, but at the same time, they also showed interest in the Me410. A competition was held, and the Ro58 was able to win it, but at the end, no orders were placed for the dealys. The two prototypes of the Ro58 were later scrapped after the armistice of 1943.
Why it should be in the game: It will be a very good heavy fighter for the Italian tt. It could go to the main line since only few heavy fighter are present in the tt.
