Identifying the range of the enemy

I was wondering how to identify the range of the enemy so I can quickly adjust my elevation of my barrel while without waiting for my rangefinder, mostly in WW2 Era tanks.

Look the size of your target
If its small it might be far from you
If its big or look big in your scope it might close

Faster shell velocity=easy to aim

set crew voices to a language you understand and the commander will call out approximate range when you start rang finding. also you can find custom sights on WT live with ranging markers.
You can also “bore sight” your gun were you find the range where your round flies fairly flat and pre-set your range to that, then when you shoot at a close target you shoot at the lower hull, when you shoot at a farther target you aim near the top of the turret. that will obviously be less effective against tanks that require you to aim for weak spots though.

Here’s a nasty trick:

Bind the squad marker to something easy to use. That yellow arrow thingy.

Click that binding on top of enemy.

Look at your mini map.

Look at grid square size number thingy.

This will give you range within 100 meters of drop on most maps with little thinking required. More precise if you develop a feel for the gridsquares.

(you can also use this to make for very precise artillery barrages)

(you can also use this without the marker trick if you recognize the landmarks on the minimap)

Also keeping an eye on the cap points can be a good reference as they tell you exactly how far away they are.

You can also use a custom sight with stadiametric rangefinder, as explained here: WT Live // Sight by Schindibee (I did quite a few of those, but haven’t created any or updated any for quite some time, admittedly…)
