History.
The “I Raggruppamento Motorizzato” was a combat unit of the Italian Royal Army, established at the brigade level to be included in the Italian Cobelligerent Army after the armistice of 8 September 1943. The group was placed under the control of the American II Army Corps commanded by General Geoffrey Keyes on 14 November 1943. The availability of men was already high immediately, given the number of disbanded soldiers present but there was a lack of armaments (from light weapons to artillery and tanks) which were gathered among the weapons of Italians and the Allies. On 3 December, after an exercise and various protests by the soldiers, the group was operationally aggregated to the 36th American Texas Division and participated in its first war deployment in the battle of Montelungo. Despite the difficulties, the soldiers showed their value and shortly after the group was sent to the rear.
The coats of arms.
The symbol of the department was the blue-bordered Savoy shield, which was not much appreciated by civilians and politicians (and perhaps some soldiers) due to the events of the armistice.
