Sounds like a bug, I mean sounds will get quieter when you look away, or the Doppler effect for planes but they won’t disappear completely.
Check the sound settings in the launcher, as well as in windows to see if they match your sound system.
In other games i can hear things behind me no problem. But in war thunder if i look away i barely hear planes and tanks. The sound they emit is so low that usually my own engine drowns it out… Its super weird.
I have done that and ive tried all different sound settings. Its so weird. My sound works perfectly in every other game except for warthunder…
Nice, just had to check.
I have had this issue before and it turned out to be (for me at least) a conflict between the windows spatial sound setting “windows sonic for headphones” and my headphones own software surround sound setting as well as (sometimes) the in game “7.1” option in speaker settings.
I solved it by turning of either the software surround or the windows spatial sound setting.
I checked that, and I don’t have windows sonic enabled. I also don’t have any software for this headset either.
Have tried clicking the “test” button in settings for the headphones format? (that setting should btw be as high as you can get it without the sound getting weird or disappearing)
I have previously had issues come up that were only ever solved by clicking the “test” and then getting a LOUD static noise and a “click” sound as if something was reset somehow. i then had to restart any game or video playing to “apply” the new audio.
I have tried clicking test. I have my headset on 48000Hz because on the website for my headphones it says "Headphone frequency response
5 - 40.000 Hz " so i just left it at 48000Hz. But now that im testing 192000Hz i hear no difference…
48kHz is more than enough, anything above that you wont really notice a difference unless you work in audio or are REALLY into that sort of stuff. (but it is technically better)
is it single or dual channel?
dual-channel i think… I bought the Beyerdynamic DT770 pro x a few days ago. They work great for every single game i have played idk why war thunder is being weird…
Here’s a video. Surely the sound shouldnt be THAT muted when i turn away? In other games like Hunt Showdown sounds behind me are still loud and i can hear that theyre behind me. But here the sound of the plane is so low its going to get completely drowned out by any other sound.
Oh those are like proper studio ones.
Have you tried having the windows spatial audio on instead of off?
I would also check for drivers and software to see if there is anything that could help there.
Yeah, i had steelseries ones but they kept breaking constantly and i heard somewhere that you should just buy a good pair of studio headphones instead of gaming ones. Because gaming ones are usually just overpriced.
That fixed it. What the heck… (that also made the sound of machineguns really weird ingame…)
true.
nice!
do you have a clip of the machineguns?
I think im just used to the machineguns sounding close from before i put on windows spatial audio. As now the machineguns sound like they’re a little bit away from me which makes sense since the camera is behind the tank
Thank you so much for the help though. I was worried i had been lied to and that these headphones dont work for war thunder 😭
Yeah that sounds normal to me :)
No problem man ^^
