I need some help with the Flakbus

So I am a German main (not blind) and my best tank is the Panther A in 6.0. I usually play GRB, although GAB is also fun. I pushed myself a bit down to 4.0 to train myself. I play the 8,8cm Flakbus now, so I can train sniping. Any tips on the bus?

Avoid being hit by stuff with lot of MGs and good HE or HEAT shells :)
Aim to one side…find a good spot where you can move forward, fire and reverse into cover.
It is a glass canon that sometimes survives AP shots…but with a killer gun at its BR.

True. I guess a low-lying area with some rocks around, since the gun depression isn’t so good to be in a higher place?

I wish there was a better way to set its proximity fuses. Those could be something to get some hits on an open-top or a truck.

The Flakbus suffers from a lack of gun depression, which requires that you pay attention to the terrain. You can force it to shoot down more, by parking on a slope or on rocks. It’s not my ideal choice to learn how to snipe, due it both it’s gun depression and exposed crew.

I suggest the Waffentrager, it’s somewhat slow, but has a low silhouette and decent gun depression (turn the turret to the rear), and good gun elevation to deal with planes.

I generally range a known distance like a rock feature near a cap to set the range for the proximity fuze. Then you can at least gauge aircraft diving in, but it’s not the best. Against ground it’s a little easier, as you can just range something just beyond the target and then fire over it to set the fuze off.

I know, but this isn’t radio fuse, and since it is poor World War II tech, it is actually not that bad. I mean, if it is a big bomber, that is either spinning from the loss of tail or a wing, then you can easily shoot and get a kill. I guess the gun should not have any problem penning Russian and US tanks, but I am having a problem penning one of the US heavies at the tier (4.0-5.0) I think it was the M6A1. Any weakspots for the heavy tank?

If you don’t know, you can rangefind to a spot, and that will set the fuse. So if you’re camping a point, rangefind to a rock near or on it, and you’re set.

As for engaging tanks, I’d hide and snipe and just hold tight until you KNOW that something is going to be hit.

At a 1000m you can easily pen that frontally, either shooting between the guns on the turret, driver hatch, or with most US tanks the lower plate. Even the next set of heavies can be penned by shooting the lower plate.

Yea…Once I flanked three tanks on the side when they were capping C. I used the Ostwind, but unfortunately, they were all heavies. RIP me.

Is there a picture?

Picture? You can use protection analysis:

Uh…Sure, but I want your opinion on which weakspots are better.

My advice when facing US tanks, shoot the MG port in the hull, or the lower transmission/plate.

If your confident with your aim, go for their gun barrel. Problem is that you are susceptible to MG fire, so you want to get a shot that disables or kills crew so that you immobilize the upper ,50,cal.

For Russian you can aim for the turret cheeks on most or through the upper or lower hull.

Yep. I did suffer from .50 cals. I think I perfer camping on the side, so that there is a larger chance I hit their sides. Do I just hit anywhere on the side or is there a good spot to hit?

Side or rear is always more preferable so you can aim anywhere, front part of the hull = transmission/driver and/or hull machine gunner, mid hull or turret = commander/loader/gunner/breach + ammo stowage, rear hull = engine.

Some tanks like Russian tanks you want to ensure you aim either below the tracks near the front or above the tracks.

The thing about the Flakbus is that it’s a niche vehicle and you need to have the proper map/terrain to make it work. It can be good at times, but I find it more painful to play then other options that are available for Germany. It’s so vulnerable to CAS, HE, or MG fire.

Yea…I don’t remember how many times a stupid P-39N tried to strafe me. Most of the times tho, they fail to pull back up.

It is always a priority target for me…it is a dangerous vehicle that can be hurt by MG fire…so i will ALWAYS target it :)

Probably they didn’t even try to pull back up…when i find a priority target (like a flakbus) i will dive into it guns blazing…i can get more rounds into it and get back to my tank faster.
(I actually dont think this is realistic and i beleive we should have an incetive to “pull up”, but until a have a good reason it makes more sense to be “effective”…long ago i tried to play “realistic”, but that would mean killing much less such targets)

Yea…I play GRB. But hell yea in AB all of them don’t pull back 'cause you can always get CAS planes +fighters MUCH easier than RB. And the targets are labelled so yeah.

in GRB i dont really get why an attacker would not pull back…guess not deliberate or a “final blow” moment…
Side note…targets in AB are no longer labelled when you on a fighter…
