I was playing War Thunder earlier today and experienced an age old problem. I loaded into a GRB match on Normandy and pushed to one of my favorite positions between C and B. My team seemed to be doing well, spread out across most of the map and covering tons of sightlines to combat the enemy. I reached my location and picked up 2 frags, side shotting the enemies without them even seeing me. After getting these 2 frags, I looked at the minimap and realized that the majority of my team had died in the span of about 45 seconds, the enemy team than proceeded to take advantage of this, and wash across the map like a tidal wave, sweeping up any surviving members of my team with them, including me. I was charged by 3 enemy mbts on my position alone. For the rest of the battle, my team foundered in and around spawn like a sinking ship, and never captured any of the points (Once again, including me).
My question is, How do I deal with a team like this at the start of a battle? Is there any way to make a guess as to whether or not the team will be like this/ early warning signs? How should I position in preparation for an event like this and what do I do when it happens? I’m not looking for a strategy to win in a situation like this, I just want to know how I can get some kills and not end up just as useless as the rest of my team. This issue happens a lot so I thought it would be a good question to get some pro advice on.
PS. I posted this on Reddit and some other platforms as well, just trying to find solutions to my problem.
Yeah, I try and donate to the German Main Blindness Foundation, but man, it’s really hard to get them the corrective eye care they need. (Thank god I only play German as minor nation at rank 2).
This has increased in almost every BR recently, by the way I agree with the friend above, German technical tree players I think are entering the match without wearing their glasses. At the moment (especially BR 7 and above) the map sizes and positions are not at all heartwarming. And sometimes I get so many new players or premium guys on my team that I go crazy. Please do not buy high-level premium vehicles without learning the game and use the backups they gift with them.
After you’ve played enough games you can often spot a losing time in the first seconds by where they go out of spawn. Not always but teams that run for the cap points instead of the map control locations are often losers. Do the best you can and maybe don’t run up unnecessary repair costs…
I normally play arcade so I may be a bit out of place replying, I have played for a number of years and am a well below average player.
I am not really bothered now and one death leave all the time, regardless of it is early in the game or in the last stages of a defeat or a rare victory.
I can only say try not to get too involved in the game emotionally or financially, it is after all just a game you play in your very valuable free time. It is supposed to be entertaining and not a chore or another stressful job, if it is worthy of it then it can be thrown some financial reward.
There are countless games after your fee time and money, be very selective about how you chose them, if it is not fun or relaxing then it may not be the game you need or are suited for, I have played, spent time and money and dropped countless games over the years. They are nearly all the same now, they put in minimum effort and want the maximum reward, using dubious advertising, FOMO, limited time offers and the such to lure you in.
The opposite. The vehicles are very strong which allows inexperienced players to advance down the tech tree faster and further than their skill (map knowledge, situation awareness, etc.) increases.
There is one very easy way to reduce the frequency of such frustrating occurrences:
both teams get equal mixes of nations, like in Arcade. More balance, more fun.
