I Need a Little Advice on the Tornado F.3

So last night I finished my grind to get the Tornado F.3 and honestly I am happy with it. (It flies like a supersonic brick like the FGR.2 does but has an infinitely better Radar and stock missile options.)

So there is something I am wondering about, as I notice that some of my Skyflash (DF)s miss in a missile joust with a perfect lock and the enemy making minimal movements. I dunno if its the missiles or my radar options, so to potentially rule out the radar, what radar option would you recommend?

And what aspect ratio?
Any advice (outside of not playing the plane) would be appreciated. As I genuinely enjoy playing the F.3.

TWS HDN will be your main mode most of the time. But hard locking a target using ACM is also rather solid in a pinch

Most of the time you’ll want to use 60x5 when finding targets over a wider area and 15x10 is great when you a tracking something specific

One small thing of note. I’ve had previous wierdness with the Skyflash DFs (if I played the FGR2/FG1 a lot more, then Id try and get together some clips to review and maybe submit a bug report for) but the Skyflash SuperTEMPs dont seem to have the same issues.

Also, I think there are still some slight issues from this major, but I think they have been largely resolved.

I’ve noticed some weirdness with Radar Missiles as well, outside of the Skyflash(DF)s, my Mig-21 Bison’s R27R1s would also miss targets they otherwise would’ve hit. (Had an R27 track an Su-30 only for it to veer off and track something it must’ve seen in the Ether despite my constant radar lock and being within Data Link range.) Seen some of my Skyflashes do the same.
I’ll definitely record a few games and put in a bug report.

So I’ll see if flying in TWS HDN will do bettter, although I prefer a smaller window because Skyflashes aren’t BVR missiles so there’s no point in trying to track too many targets at once. I generally wait to see the furball form before going in and picking off individual targets. But I’ll try the wide arc. For ACM mode I’ll try 15x10.

Thanks for the advice.

The DFs struggle past 10km but the SuperTEMPs you can push things a little further. I’ll typically try for around 15-20km usually.

We were meant to get LSZ (the small box on the right hand of the radar, you’ll see it with the 9Ls. Shoot within that box and the target shouldnt be able to defeat the missile kinematically) for the Skyflash SuperTEMPs at some point, but it appears to have never happened unfortunately. But you can see if the target is within range

Because of the DFs I generally keep my engagement range under 10km. Its something I picked up with the R-Darters and R27s, they struggle and pretty much will never kill anything above 10km unless I am launching them at a target below me.
