I don't know why but im bad at War thunder ground

I’m just bad at realistik ground with tanks i always get killed in the first minutes and i don’t have an idea about tactics

if u see somebody performing really well, watch the replay and see how he plays.
and good map knowledge is very important

You can always play a few arcade games to see what is happening better…then you move to RB knowing how tanks work, move and fire…

And BTW…if you are starting RB…start at low tier…it is much harder at higher tiers (better players, longer ranges)

The whole “getting good” issue is complicated, goes lot deeper beyond “camp this spot on this map” and Id say there are aspects to it that might not be obvious at the first glance.

The first thing you should actually happens before you even connect into match - you need to take a look at your lineup. Do you have all aviable crew slots? Are they all filled with BR appropriate vehicles? Do you know what vehicles you have in your lineup and do you understand their roles?

F2P player gets five crew slots, that gives you five possible vehicles you can bring and spawn in your games. While you might not use all of them in every single game, you can make a lineup that can perform well on any map no matter what you play against, simply by spawning a correct vehicle at correct time.

To give an example, lets take a look at my US 5.7 lineup

I got few more crew slots than average player, but that is not important. For now we can safely ignore the M4A3(76)W, M4A2(76)W and M36GMC as they are basically just backups I like to have and this lineup would perform about the same without them.

That leaves us with T1E1(90), Sherman (Hell), M36B2, Skink, P-47M.

  • T1E1(90) is a heavy tank that really plays as medium due to bad armor, but it has quite nice firepower for its BR due to 90mm gun, and good reverse speed. For my lineup it fills role of heavy medium that provides mobility with good firepower, something i want on urban maps where theres not lot of ways to flank those pesky tigers, which engaged with 90mm. But its armor isnt best so I cant really “tank” shots in traditional sense.
  • Sherman (Hell) is standard M4A3E8 Sherman medium just with camo net and premium bonuses, it has thin armor but its mobilie with good firepower. It fills the role of standard medium, jack of all trades that can do just about anything but its not particullary good at one thing. Its fast enough to pull flanking manuevers and with little bit of aim it can take on Tiger Is frontally (even Tiger II with prototype turrets). But it can be easily taken out if focused since the armor isnt good.
  • M36B2 is tank destroyer, again thin armor but powerfull 90mm gun AND gets access to post-WW2 HEAT-FS rounds co it tan take on Jagdtigers and King Tigers frontally. It fills the traditional role of tank destroyer, since it can punch way above its weight, something I want on maps like Sands of Sinai in uptier where I cant easily flank King Tigers. Again armor isnt the best, so I need to make sure im firing from good position.
  • Skink is very good AA, similiar to german wirbelwind but enclosed so it cant be easily strafed. It, unsuprisingly, fills a role of SPAA, something I spawn when I want to take down CAS. But it sucks engaging anything that isnt plane or enemy SPAA so I shouldnt really try to 1v1 enemies with it.
  • P-47M is Thunderbolt, it has lot of bombs and rockets and once it dropes them, it can do CAP pretty easily. It fills both role of CAS and CAP and gives me more tactical freedom of how to play the game.

You need to assess your lineup similiarly. Take a vehicle, look at what its strong and weakpoints might be, maybe do some reading on forums about it, that should give you a general idea about how it should be played.

Tanks with bad guns dont make for good snipers. Tanks with thin armor dont make for good brawlers. Slow tanks dont make for good flankers etc.

Its important to know this, because it ties in with the next issue - map knowledge.

Sadly theres no universal tip or trick to help you there, map knowledge comes from experience so just play, play and play. Theres however one thing you can do to mitigate this, and that is to learn to read and use a map.

Lets use this map as example.

Just quick glance tells you several things:

  • where the caps are
  • where the enemy spawns are
  • likely lines of approach of enemies, which will be more likely than not direct line from their closest spawn to cap
  • likely ways flankers will take as these almost exclusively flank the aforementioned lines of approach; you can also discern where you need to go to flank the enemy
  • B and C points are capped by your team, so theres like 90% chance theres no enemy DIRECTLY on them- otherwise they would be decapped
  • A point is capped by enemy team, meaning that at one point of the match, enemy was present there and it is very likely its still there, protecting it
  • it shows you your cone of vision, which helps you with orientation
  • it shows where your friendlies are, meaning that more likely than not that area is under your team control (this isnt always true)
  • it shows you where your friendlies are not, meanign that more likely than not that area is NOT under your team control (this also isnt always true) so flanking manuever can come from that direction
  • you an somehow discern the sightlines present on this map - water surface will likely be the lowest poin of map; theres a city in middle of the map, which means buildings, which means cover, also likely flat area; you can see where the bridges are meaning that if the river is deep enough thats only possible crossing for non-amphibious vehicles; you can make out some contour lines showing where the
terrain irregularities are; you can see patches of dark green which more likely than not represent forests and thus, concealment.

Now just combine the previous point about lineups and combine it with this map knowledge. Say you spawn in Wolverine, thinly armored tank destroyer thats somewhat fast and well armed (for its BR), with slow turret rotation but good gun depression.

Do you:
A) go to city where theres lot of cover, meaning you might have to fight enemies at close range and you wont utilize half of your kit properly or
B) go to area around A or C, hanging back in second line, providing sniper fire to your team mates by taking out armored targets at range, from safety of hulldown position?

Just apply the same thought process to every vehcle in your lineup and every map you play in.

Continue shooting stuff and capturing points, the game relies on conflict. Even if you die heaps (as I do lol) you can level up fairly easily. In the future you might look back at rank III tanks and realise that a lot of them just stink. Many of my favourite vehicles are BR 6.0 to about BR 8.0

As a rank 100 ground battles player I constantly die but in a good game I capture 2 points and repair a team mate to get them back into battle. The question is really can you get at least 400 score per battle - ideally 600-1200 score. Whether or not you progress is the important thing, not how many times you died. I’ll die 6 or 7 times and have a really high score (rarely but it happens) so never mind dying, just push hard and try to capture the point or do some damage by flanking.
