I cant seem to get anything right with air

in US ground I can usually get at least 3 or so kills per game, but with US air I always just eat shit and die. It doesnt matter what i do i always get fucking stomped, and its really a miserable experience to play to get better when every single time its the same thing

Sounds like you rush the tree.

huh

I think he’s saying OP skipped too many of the earlier BRs, so OP lacks fundamental skills.

It would probably help if you gave more information
Like what br are you playing, which planes do you use. What you are doing and what kills you in what way.

just to chime in, OP didnt skip earlier BRs, hes still at earlier BRs.

I thought similiarly of props BRs. There was always someone faster, more agile and with heavier arment than me. I geniunely didnt touch prop BRs for like 5 years or so.

But not so while ago I wanted to grind CAS for my UK 7.7 lineup, and later for my French 7.7 lineup, so I went back to prop tiers.

Whats worse, I had fun.

The great secret I figured out so far, and I mean this sincerely and without hint of irony, is to sideclimb and always be higher than your enemy.

Finally, someone who helps and answers the question

impossible…

I do that pretty much every game, sometimes it works but other times theres some random G.55 that climbed higher than me and the spotting system didnt alert me until he was on my 6, or a yak 3 is coming after me when im in a low speed state and i dont have the speed to drag him into a vertical spiral (i think thats what they’re called"

Just merely rotating your camera around for a brief moment is enough to spot enemies that are unspotted. Make sure to keep awareness of your surroundings at all times.

i can stare at my monitor squinting for like 5 minutes and still not spot an airplane

This statement (together with your first post) explains a lot - same as your vehicle choices (i checked statshark).

Even without a detailed analysis your main problem is connected to your lack of experience - and subsequently your low crew XP (which affects spotting ranges, g-loads or stamina).

  1. Players mainly active in Ground RB are somehow forced into these “you have to build up lineups” trap - and spread their experience amongst multiple crew slots - a pure Air RB player uses usually just one slot and is (thanks to the much better SL/RP economy) able to build up crew XP much faster.

  2. As most US aircraft are not dedicated turn fighters and need altitude/energy advantage to make them work new players (like you) are usually unable to benefit from the high speed handling advantage simply because they black out at high speed maneuvers - that’s the main reason why XP-50s were even as long as they had their air spawn easy prey for any experienced enemy.

  3. On top of that the wt meta favors fast climbers and good turn fighters - besides some rare examples like the P-39s, the P-63 A-5, the P-36G, the F6F-5, the XP-50 or the P-51 C & H-5 most US fighters can’t turnfight so it is essential to have a clear picture of the match (who is where and who is a threat or a target) - aka as situational awareness.

In other words - you have to adjust your plane choices to your preferred play style and without having upgraded your crew skills adopted to your play style you won’t have any fun as you get farmed by every enemy with some brain power.

In order to build up crew points in an acceptable time frame you need an aircraft which allows you to score reliably - and in the best case you have premium time and a premium plane as just 1% of your research RP (Air RB) are actually converted into crew XP.

As a final remark: Upward spirals against Yak-3s work rarely below 6 km altitude and require a significant energy surplus - just run away next time 😎

This does help, but not spotting enemies isn’t my only issue, the other being how much should I climb, because it seems like i either don’t climb enough or climb so much that the round is basically over by the time i turn in

Regarding climbing:

  • This is always the main question - and from my pov there is no ultimate answer for that - simply because if you fly non-air spawn US fighters you are forced to react on better climbing enemies and your relative and absolute positioning vs them.

  • And it is a matter of your play style, skill level and the qualities of the aircraft and pilots you face.

  • I play every match with US aircraft (in an US team) with the expectation that i play 1 vs all after a few minutes. After more than 2.000 matches (out of ~ 27.000 at prop BRs) in US aircraft in almost all TTs i assess playing in US teams mainly as challenge - when i fly identical aircraft in other TTs it is more than obvious that your efforts to get something done is way lower if you play an UK, IT or CHN P-47.

  • So If you are good enough (or the enemies are not really good and fly inferior aircraft) you can win even clearly outnumbered. Best example is when you fly in a small 6 vs 6 match on a Pacific map. As long as the max BR is below 5.0 (=J2M2 & A7M1 at 5.0) you are untouchable if you get above 6-6.5 km altitude.

  • In addition your motivation why you play the game or a specific mode plays a role too - meaning that if you play just for fun or if you are trapped in the hamster wheel called grind.

  • From my pov Air RB is no rocket science - it is rather easy to learn if you are willing to invest some time in basics like energy management, ACM in general and strengths & weaknesses of involved aircraft.

Last but not least: There are 2 ways to win an Air RB match:

  1. Kill as many enemies as fast as you can at the beginning of the match and play the numbers game (aka as TDM = TeamDeathMatch) - or:
  2. Focus on the most dangerous enemy player/aircraft aka as “decapitation strike” as killing rookies has usually no impact at the outcome of matches.

Your decision to play the US Air TT has the advantage that most of the US aircraft are way faster (if spaded) than your opponents, but the disadvantage that most of them require a rather boring play style and you are usually alone if you want to play them to their strengths.

Therefore i would recommend to ask yourself if you are willing to invest some time in researching the art of prop Air RB or not.

Have a good one!

see playing 1v6 when im already one of the worst players in the server isnt really that great, and there doesn’t seem like theres any other way to learn the game, so maybe the trick is just to buy the british thunderbolt and learn with that?
