I’m wondering what I may be possibly doing wrong here. I’ve unlocked my first radar AA truck, it’s the swedish 8.0 v40. Lock targets just fine, track but even while I aim directly in the little lead indicator, never hit a blasted thing. Wiki says engagement range is up to 3k, I usually start firing anywhere from 2K all the way down to 500 m. Never hit. Ever. What’s the deal? Where am I messing up?
It probably doesn’t account for bullet drop or the aircraft acceleration. You need to account for bullet drop and aircraft acceleration by yourself and “lead the lead indicator”.
Also early radars aren’t super accurate anyways.
I also struggle a lot with radar lead in my ZSU 23-4V and I notice that it’s often off in elevation and horizon by quite a large margin. I understand the accuracy of said radars but at the br’s that they have to operate everything goes faster than 1000km/h easily making target acquisition and following at low altitude very hard since often you don’t even have enough turret rotation speed to follow the plane anyways.
I resorted to shoot only under 1km and only at favorable angles to not show myself but at the very last moment where it makes it very hard for them to dodge, yet it’s still very hard to survive because they will spray at you from over 1km and hit easily since you can’t move fast in these to dodge incoming fire.
I always try to have hard cover beside me where I can retreat if needed but every SPAA that I played before AAM launchers are very underwhelming, boring and especially not rewarding to play as it involves a lot of down time where your activity % stays flat.
It sucks that everything in this game is there to favour CAS players in the ground mode.
