Hull Armor of the M1 Abrams

yeah it was, only the vehicle in this game isnt it,.

true

Anyone whom has done research doesn’t buy AR500…

And if they’re fool enough to buy steel plates, which you shouldn’t, they have to buy extra backplates and collars to deflect fragmentation.

Don’t be foolish. Buy ceramic.

im sorry… these are " evaluations " ? guess work? Estimations? LOL

I don’t want to be that guy, but yea what you just gave doesn’t actually mean much, if anything it proves the M1s up till 2002 didn’t have DU in the hull.

Just slap the challengers TES NERA hull package on the front and call it good. If the U.S identified a major weak point we can assume they would do something. The cheapest and most time efficient would just be a External mounting of NERA which all nato countries are doing. Yes the front of the suspension will be well over weight but in the name balance and believable stop-gap measures, seems fitting. Plus if we put context to the world in which the Abrams is placed in game. (something like ww3) the suspension breaking down quickly but easily repairable, in comparison to flat-out writ offs, the the decision would make more sense. We saw it in ww2 with the Sherman’s , we saw in the gulf war with the challenger, we see it now in Ukraine with basically every tank on either side (sometimes not even armored vehicles) its a logical short term answer to a significant problem. I also don’t own any high tier tanks so this is just me looking through glass.

I also think that if Russian tanks weren’t given "some’ help they’d be unplayable. Everyone always brings up the thermals. You can’t honestly believe it would be ok for 11.7 tank to not have thermals! T-72 with no reverse pass. Honestly we should talk about Germany with the best win rate in leopard’s! Like are people blind? Legally? The Germans have the some if not the best tanks through the whole game! From Panzer 2 to leopard2a7v! My god playing through 6.0 Russia to 8.3 is a flat out ptsd inducing. With that being said, the T-55AM’s should be 9.0-9.3 there’s no reason they should see 7.7 vehicles (aside from Sweden) that should see them . I own the premium one, it’s very very good btw.

Eh, it is not relevant, the US had already upgraded the suspension, that’s why the later M1s had no problems even with all the added weight, I honestly have no clue how Gaijin thought we would fall for that logic, I mean how do they think TUSK and TUSK II could be used by the SEPs if their suspension couldn’t handle all of that extra weight…

They were test beds.

Nah, they actually had armor and shot at it.

No Britain enquired about purchasing the M1A1 and M1A2 (along with the Leopard 2A4, Leopard 2 Improved, and Leclerc) and the manufacturers provided the relevant information to Britain. Britain then spent literally years going though all information and conducting trials to decide which tank to buy.

the definition of an evaluation is to assess/ judge/calculate you don’t have the actual approximate value.

now imagine fighting IS3, IS4, IS6, with APCR, APBC Rounds then tell me how PTSD inducing it is. Then i want you to fight the magical T54 that would somehow bounce shells off its armor at ridiculous angles, and you would watch the shells fly off into space.

conducting trials on what?

Thank you for this information. This means that my calculations about the du plate thickness was correct, stating 4 to 8 centimeters plausible. US used 2" which is 5,08 cm of Uranium plate. According to this source the total weight of the hull armor would be 1,2 tonnes. This even further proves the DU in armor from physical point of view. Adding 1,2 tonnes of uranium in place of steel will remove 480kg of steel. Net weight in the armor will be around 700kg then on overestimated plate (202x63,5x5,08) :D Where is that enormous weight increase gaijin was talking about? XD

Real value would be around 580 kg. The plate would be 80" x 18~20" x 2" in the hull.

It’s not a 1:1 exchange either. The DU is interwoven in some sort of steel/titanium mix plate and that is then sandwiched between steel plates.

The Spook has spoken, and the topic shall now be ignored.

And then they come and say that “without numbers they estimate this improvement to none and stfu” pretty much like they did with hull armour and M829A3. In current US top tier state it’s not even funny. I would rather play only SPAA than think that I can go on confident 1v1 fight with T-90M, 2A7 or strvs 122Bs. Found 10.0 BR bracket to be good and rewarding but with flowers like Abrams on 10.3 and T-90A with 3BM60(sick!) On 10.7.
