How to start playing air realistic battles?

Hello. I’m a relatively new player, as i’m around rank 5 in the US tech tree. Up to this point, i’ve only played arcade battles. I heard that i people get the most RP from realistic battles, but everytime i tried, i got around one kill, died, and got 300 RP. I was wondering on how i can get better at air RB and how i can get more RP.

Just select it and play - perhaps go back to reserves for a game or 2 if you’re worried

So just play until i get good?

As per any other mode - look up teaching videos, read threads, play, give it some thought and practice… RB is no more magic than AB.

My suggestion is to start at the lowest ranks, so your opponents do not immediately punish you for mistakes. Using certain planes, you can give yourself a very large safety margin in terms of performance, so you can maximize the amount of experience you can gain as you learn.
As the other poster said, watching videos about how to play can help (I learned a lot from Defyn, AdamTheEnginerd, Green Fury, and others).
Watching your own replays can help you think through your and the opponent’s mistakes and correct actions, so you can try new things next time you’re in the same situations.
Watching server replays lets you see how any player used their camera in a fight. Seeing this can teach you what goes though the mind of an average, or a good player’s mind.

Here are some plane suggestions:
US: P-400 and A-36 (perfect for learning BnZ, very fast, low BR, air spawn w/ A-36), F3F (incredibly good at everything)
DE: He 100 (incredibly fast, BR 4.0 performance at BR 1.7, learning MEC can help you do better), Hs 123 (use as air spawn fighter)
RU: Mig-3 (fast, low BR, air spawn)
UK: Firecrest (fast, low BR, air spawn), Spitfire Mk 1a (Strong climb, you need throttle management to keep engine cool)
JP: D4Y1 (fast, bomber spawn, low BR, incredible agility, but weak guns)
CH: P-66 (decent speed), CW-21 (Strong climb)
IT: Re.2000 Serie 1 (incredibly good climb rate, low BR, incredible agility)
FR: C.R.714 (fast, good practice vs slow biplanes)
SW: J20 (same as Re.2000 S1, but worse guns)

Due to the lack of rev limiter, you need to really work the prop pitch to prevent it from over revving, and it just becomes tedious.

This is a fairly good plane, and it’s actually good for learning MEC.

I agree with starting out at lower ranks, the opponents are usually less skilled, and the planes are simpler to fly. Jumping right into early jets will just get you killed.

It’s not tedious if you use MEC while climbing/cruising at a constant speed, and switch to AEC during combat/when speed needs to change. What this will result in is better cooling while WEPing since you can force the radiator out and run the engine at a slightly lower RPM setting (explanation for other readers :3 ).

i’d suggest you try earlier planes first, perhaps even biplanes if you’d like. You’ll get the feeling of using the guns and aiming in front of the enemy by then once you feel confident enough on rank V. IMHO the gunplay in US tech tree doesn’t feel much different since a majority of them are still using MGs until you’re up to the jet age.

It is very important to stay alive as long as possible. But you need to get some score too.

So after you got a kill or score, stay alive, refuel/rearm etc.
