Why not? A lot of ships are poorly designed and makes them more or less unplayable. I need to point no further than the French battleships.
They recendly added it and it makes the game more “realisticly” challenging
It makes lots of boats unplayable. Especially the gun boats with large caliber (76mm+) manual loading guns. Would not be that bad if every boat was like that. But when you account for waves, the 40mm boats will be overwhelmingly superior. I don’t need to mention the Pr 206.
Then they should fix them and in fact add more stuff in them, it is stupid to get hit by 3X 30KG shells and them overpen and not brake the keel.
If I want to play Naval with hitpoint I would play WoS.
You need to find the optimum speed, you can’t go flank and have hits in all boats.
If you are talking about extreme weather then I haven’t noticed.
I feel like people aren’t talking about the decrease in target acquisition in arcade enough. I’ve been biting my tongue since the update to see how it plays out, but it is getting absolutely ridiculous. It’s almost instant range-finding, which combined with the preservation of last-ship-range-finding-preserved has meant there is no real penalty for destroyers to start lobbing and shooting, with fantastic accuracy, at coastal ships from the start and from upwards of 10km out. I have personally been pinpoint hit and killed right out of spawn in that exact manner more times than I can count now.
As it stands, rangefinding has been nerfed to essentially a pointless mechanic- it is nearly instantaneous, constantly updates instantly, and can allow transition from target to target with minimal to no penalty. It’s part of the dumbing-down of NAB and it harmful to coastal players especially, as destroyers can now pinpoint and easily track and hit coastal vessels from multiple kilometers, at ranges that previously were considered at least somewhat safe from their gun fire. It’s also allowing players to immediately be under accurate fire from the first couple seconds, incapacitating their ships before they can even move away from spawn.
Bring back slower range finding, bring back less ACCURATE range finding, make players actually have to learn to adjust their fire, watch their shot fall, and adjust to the changing speeds and distance closing/widening between their ships and enemy ships. While we’re at it, not allowing AA guns on destroyers to open fire at 4, 5km out from a coastal ship would be nice too- there’s been times where the AA gunners just randomly are hosing down a coastal ship from that distance without rhyme nor reason. They SHOULD be able to fire, ofc, but maybe not from across the entire map?
Make limits on using special types of ships, depending on BR.
(~5 battleships, 10 heavy cruisers, >30 destroyers, ~60 costal) every depending on random OR through SP points.
And for god’s sake remove spawn limit on coastal, i bought 7 crew slots not to be restricted to 3 ships per game
That’s a very long post. You really like naval! Too bad Google translate can’t translate them all at once. Would be nice to see a TLDR version for these points…guess LLM can do this
We absolutely don’t need longer matches. 8-20mins is plenty. Lots of us have jobs, and we’re not here to play one match of Arcade Naval for the night. RB battles are so long, they time out. Us AB players ain’t looking for that level of commitment.
The new AB auto aiming is trash. It’s point and click. No thinking or understanding required.
It has been THIS that has led to the radical loss of playability in coastal.
Coastals used to be hard to hit. It made it a bad value proposition for big ships to try to shoot at small ones. Until they go closer. NOW… they can hit them from spawn to spawn at game launch.
I can do a LOT of work at 3.3 with a 123k, or a PR.183. Even if I couldn’t directly challenge a 4.3. BUT… you can kill a 206 w/ a 183. You can also cap points and throw torps.
BUT NOT if DDs are auto-aiming/spaming HEVT at you at launch.
eliminating skill from aiming has devastated coastals.
If you’re not going to fix aim, then you need to make coastal invis again. I’d say up to 2km/3km.
I love that Naval 3.7 BR PT boats can sink 4.7 DD or 5.7 Cruisers. I’d like to keep that. It’s fun, and it’s historically accurate.
They are invisible from 3+ km if you look at them in third person view, more then that they are invisible if they go behind the camera. In first person view they are invisible from 8+ so they can spam torpedoes from invisibility, which is totally unfair for big slow targets.
Why they can’t now?
You just upset that now even a new player can kill you if you play dumb, instead of fighting with aiming and trying to understand wtf is going on, while you farm them, like they did before changes.

This is true. It’s very frustrating to have to allocate 30 minutes into a top tier naval match. Personally, I think the maps are too big for coastal (on higher br maps) and battleships/cruisers.
Your answer is found within the post. And within other’s posts on the topic.
The problem people are having is AI and Players being able to kill coastals from 10km out.
[shrugs] No. I’m upset that the mechanics have dumbed down a core aspect of gameplay so that there is no room to play intelligently. You don’t have the opportunity if you can’t get out of spawn, or you’re erased seconds after being spotted by a DD.
LOL. My guy, you’re straight up lying at this point. You were not able to hit coastals from Spawn previous to Hornet update.
You have one agenda. And I applaud you. You’re a ceaseless naysayer and dismisser of EVERYONE here asking Gaijin to fix naval. Your endless reply is: “You Are Wrong. I am Right.”
And no one likes it. I’m glad you have so much endurance. And apparently time, to visit each post, cyberstalk the players, go through their stats, their replays…JUST to find way to dismiss us. (creepy AF but impressive!)
But there are…what? 6!!! Posts Talking about how much this update sucks, how it destroyed gameplay, and how much we all dislike it!?
I 100% agree. The change to the Naval AB targeting has largely ruined the game for me. It now feels like I am playing in a match where everyone is using a targeting bot cheat. All you need to do is point at the desired ship and spam the fire button, even if they are 13K away the hits start happening almost right away. There is no longer any need for skill in leading the targets, or needing time to get targeting help when switch targets - now you can just switch targets and instantly get very accurate hits. Where is the challenge or fun in that? And if you are in a Destroyer and can see a coastal ship, even 4-5k away, you can almost always get a kill quite quickly. Again, I see no challenge or fun in that and of course is even less fun when you are the one in the coastal vessel and get killed in almost no time as soon as you can be seen by any Bluewater ships. You used to be mostly safe from Bluewater ships in a coastal ship when 4-5k away, but that is no longer the case and it is just stupid. Please revert back to the way targeting used to function - the change to this new dumbed down version is driving players away and I will soon join those ranks if this keeps up.
Hm fair point. I like the new aim system for battleship matches.
But yeah, coastal in AB is really rough now. Back then, only the destroyer spawn vehicles like Akebono, SKR-7, or Akizuki (a ship of what if we mix Mikuma and Akebono into a destroyer package) that has fast fire rate and good velocity could take out coastal from 3-5km away.
Not only that, the secondary gunners also seem much stronger now. It’s unbearable even as a coastal frigate like SKR. Now you not only face Frank Knox’s guns but also their AA weapons.
The point of brown water coastal boats is to quickly grind battle tasks, or capture points, and blue water spawn frigates are to prevent them from doing so. In AB, the updates emphasize this point further.
Once the destroyers move closer then it’s to hop into a blue water or leave (which I do if I want to grind coastal only)
