How to Defeat Black Knight APS with top-tier APFSDS?

A couple of matches ago, I was using my Strv 122B+ with the “slpprj m/95” APFSDS round with 580mm of pen and travels at 1705 m/s. I fired 2 perfect side-shots (he wasn’t looking at me) on a Challenger 2 Black Knight then later 2 frontal shots toward his breech, and none of them did any damage.

I know the Iron Fist is supposed to be able to stop APFSDS from long distances but I don’t think his APS should be THAT effective otherwise it’s outright cheating-level of bs.

So, as the title says, how are we supposed to fight this?

Well, assuming it did block all those shots at that range (I personally have never had the APS block a shot fired from any range less than 500+m) then it would have run out of ammo and the next shot would have one shot it

But given the only reason the BN is at 12.7 is the APS, and not 11.3/11.7 alongside the base Challenger 2… any nerfs to it would jsut result in BR drops, which I wouldnt complain abut

Edit: the screenshot clearly shows its 900m away, not 200. Also AB or RB? Tags say RB but the fact you have names for enemies, that would be AB, and I assume it might have different performance in AB?

The Saab LEDS-150 APS isn’t even supposed to defeat APFSDS rounds. It was designed for ATGMs, RPGs, and maybe slower HEAT rounds. APFSDS rounds are extremely fast and dense. The MMW radar can’t respond fast enough. IRL right now no APS can defeat APFSDS rounds. However, in War Thunder, don’t bother to shoot the Black Knight from long distance. If it intercepts once, just try to get closer to defeat its APS. I’m quite worried if Gaijin implements all future APS to intercept APFSDS rounds at longer range at the same time as making larger maps. Its unrealistic and makes the whole point of modern tank warfare idiotic.

Then at long range, the round has slowed down enough to be detected and intercepted. Whether it should be able to is a debate, but on most CQB maps… the BN even being 12.0 is a debate to be had

That is about right if your round is in the interception speed it will go for it

So the Black Knight is invincible unless you drive up his butt to fire?

it has only 4 APS charges so either get closer or make him run out of charges

Also the APS isn’t 100% effective against APFSDS

If only Gaijin did their research, they would know Hard Kill APS doesn’t just delete the APFSDS round. If it manages to even hit it, it won’t be able to yaw it enough to not hit the tank and the rod still maintains the kinetic energy to punch through the sides.

I really want to know what’s the source they used for the Black Knight’s APS. Yeah i know this game is not realistic but jesus the future of aps in top tier ground is looking bleak like the future of top tier air with 5th gen.

Trophy and iron fist work very differently.

Works differently, but not my point. No APS can take out an apfsds round. We have some in development looking to hit hard enough to yaw the round but none currently finished past development.

This is not a good comparison as the Trophy acts like a shotgun kinda, meanwhile the Iron Fist is more like a missile (not literally). But I do get that the entire projectile doesn’t just disappear, but it does get a big chunk of its performance reduced

The Iron Fist also had very recently a live test where it intercepted multiple APFSDSs rounds

There is no reason why it couldn’t, the radars can see it and the turrets have sufficient reaction speed

Right, I know if it gets hit, it will lose KE. But in the case of OP’s complaint, that round can still punch through Black Knight’s side armor and other weak spots.

The guy, at least from what I’ve seen, is quite reputable. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was true as such tests were done already in the past (as Devil has showed already)

Iron Fist is the ONE thing making ONE of Britain’s Top Tier tanks SOMEWHAT worth it… I hope it’s not artificially nerfed because it inconveniences some.

I wouldn’t be suprised if Gaijin takes word of mouth sources. They’ve done it for LMUR’s AoA. But I really want to see test footages of APFSDS rounds getting intercepted. Would be interesting to see how the rod moves after getting hit. But if Gaijin is lazy and copy pastes black knight’s aps to all of top tier new tanks, it’s just gonna be I shoot at target 900 m away. Target intercepts. Now we both have to fight in the middle. It’s going to eliminate sniping which is a core part of modern tank warfare and in game.
