Hi, I’m new to the F8U-2 Crusader. I currently don’t have a very high KD with it, and I’m new to 10.3. I was hoping someone could explain to me how to fly the plane effectively, what planes to watch out for, and what their general flight characteristics are.
Well you are a very dominant energyfighter. You can defeat almost every plane you face by dogfighting them and gunning them down. But thats only viable when there are no other enemies around. You got aim9ds which are caged but still really good. I would reccomend doing sweeping runs over the battlefield getting the easy picks then forcing enemies into 1v1s late game. Always keep your speed up also

It is a very good plane, especially when you have all Aim-9D’s unlocked, so don’t give up on it.
I like to fly high with it and then dive down behind enemies and abusing the long range of the missiles to kill unsuspecting enemies. However when you do that you should watch out for Mig-21, they have a similar playstyle, but also optional radar missiles which can catch you off guard in a head-on.
You have pretty good guns, but they are kind of hard to aim well with the bad rudder. However, you generally have an otherwise great flight performance so it is possible to take dogfights if need be. I would recommend you keep up your speed and stick to swooping in and shooting slow targets, or sniping people from high up.

Learn what planes are flareless and very hard focus those with the usually unavoidable missiles it has. It has faster bullets than its opponents and a good spray so be greedy with headons and pull off later than usual. It also has combat flaps, and I believe the plane as a whole does much better at medium altitudes rather than sea level but I’m not 100% correct on that(big wings = drag?). You barely outrun mig 19s, dont try and do a prolonged fight with them.
